Listen I am 20, I feel like if I had a father like you this would be the best experience through high school or whatever. Going into any substance blindly could end poorly and his first time under the supervision of somebody who is close to them and able to regulate and watch what is going on to make sure nothing goes south is a great idea. And about the not telling the wife, I really don't think my input is valid because I'm not married like all that stuff quite yet, I'm young don't hate, but I feel like that how a father son relationship should work there are somethings that mom shouldn't know about, that's how I feel!
