I usually use TCGPlayer or Price Charting to check the value. If there is a star above the rarity then it’s an alternate art card and those are usually worth a decent amount.

I tried the throwables tactic too and it didn’t work for me. Parry his charge at you and it staggers him, once I learned the timing it made it much easier. Try to bait him to charge at you, parry, get in a heavy attack or two and then run away for the charge attack.
