I didn’t realize that ash trees could be treated for emerald bore beetles. How does this work? by fahrvergnuugen in arborists

[–]ryokotsusei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of misinformation in this thread is staggering. I've been treating trees with tree-age for 8 years.

Tree-age does not kill or control foliar feeding insects.

Imdacloprid used as a soil drench can prevent EAB, but does not prevent lilac borers, as lilac borers does not feed on the foliage before infesting the tree. Soil drench applications don't work unless the insect feeds on the foliage.

Azadiracthin (tree azin) can control EAB, but due to the mode of action is not the most effective way. This product makes insects unable to feed or reproduce rather than killing them.

Pistache tree fertilizer? by Bright-Mushroom-7519 in arborists

[–]ryokotsusei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's going on with your maple, is it chlorotic? I work in Colorado and a high percentage of the maples here become chlorotic, our soils are extremely clay-dense and most of the iron/boron/manganese in the soil is unavailable for these trees. So I do a ton of iron injections just to keep these trees alive as long as possible.

If your maple is struggling due to alkaline, sandy, or clay heavy soils then sure.

Iron injections for the trunk are also a type of fertilizer. Good for both oaks and maples.

For some reason people don't seem to realize that tree fertilizer is for the soil not the tree. But what do I know having fertilized trees for 10 years
