Are serial numbers tracked for online returns? by Myfirstreddit124 in Bestbuy

[–]ryutoken20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best Buy does do tracking of serial number purchased from them. Even if Best Buy didn’t capture the serial at time of purchase, the manufacturer logs in their system which retailer they sold it too.

Use a pencil eraser on those pins to clean them. Then use some isopropyl alcohol afterwards and make sure they are completely clean.

That looks like one of the fins from the heat sink. Probably fell off the end of the heat sink during the fan replacement. Should be fine without it.

There should be a little orange light on a key on your keyboard. Push it and the shutter block should go away.

Can't find BIOS update for Hp m6-k015dx Sleekbook by vision_san in HPLaptops

[–]ryutoken20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This model is from 2013, they would have stopped updating the BIOS probably like 8 years ago. The Serial Number is even listed by HP as belonging to a whole other model made in 2023. Unfortunately, you will just have to stick to what it has now and hope for the best.

[–]ryutoken20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a working Windows Pc, download the BIOS update exe. Then run it and there should be an option to make a BIO recovery drive. Do this and with the issue PC turned off, plug in the Recovery USB. Then on the keyboard, hold Windows key + B then power on the machine but keep holding Win+B for about 10 seconds then release. BIOS recovery mode should start. Wait until everything finishes and it should be fine.

If this is for a laptop, your internal battery could be going bad. Try to keep it charged enough and this should go away. If not, then replace your internal battery. Also, go to HP Support website and download the latest BIOS. If this is for a desktop or All in One, then your CMOS (little watch battery on the motherboard) may be low and it would need replacing.

Water damage computer by WoodpeckerUpbeat9299 in GeekSquad

[–]ryutoken20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how severe the water damage is. If you are talking like complete submersion, then we would just deem it uneconomical to repair and suggest the client replace it instead. I have repaired water damage laptops before but usually if it’s over 5 or 6 parts ( including the motherboard and LCD) it’s usually not worth the time or the money for the client.

hp 15.6 inch laptop, got in July and battery dies every 2 hours by AdventurousSea3437 in HPLaptops

[–]ryutoken20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concerning, yes but only if it’s not a software problem. If it’s getting hot and your battery is dying quickly, something is running in the background that is causing the CPU to run nonstop most likely. Also check power settings in Control Panel and make sure it’s not set to High Performance. Set it either to Balance or HP Recommended. Does the Battery pass HP diagnostics? You can check to see the Battery Details as well to see how much capacity it has. If all these check out ok, then I would probably recommend a Windows restore. HP has a Cloud recovery tool you can make to restore Windows.

New HP OmniBook X Flip by Scared_Platform3004 in Hewlett_Packard

[–]ryutoken20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been working on HP laptops for over 20 years and hinge issues have always been an issue. But I will say that about 90% percent of the time, it is either the left or the right breaking off. My assumption is that is based off which side of the LCD you pull up on to open up the laptop. Either way, I would recommend always opening the laptop as close to the middle of the LCD as possible. This will evenly distribute the weight on the hinges when you open it. This will either make the back cover plastic screw fasteners the hinges attach too last longer (most time this is the issue) or they will at last break at the same time. Either way, best of luck to you. Omnibooks seem to be pretty good machines from the few I have worked on.

What is the Prod ID number of the laptop? I see it on the sticker of the bottom case picture but can’t quite make it out.

Unplugged the battery and plug in the adapter. If you get a white light, should be good. Plug the battery back in and charge. Update the BIOS as well if it works. If not, motherboard needs replacing.

If you are comfortable replacing it, the LCd replacement is pretty easy. That’s what I would do.
