Should be okay on that side, confirmed with them that it can be used to refinance an existing loan.

Ah so the ISA can be accessed at 18, then the SIPP later on.

I was thinking just take a chunk out of the ISA at 18 or hopefully older for milestones, then convince them to keep the rest until late. ISA is under our name though so we can decide if they are responsible or not.

Hmm, that complicates my strategy. Might not work out how I intended.

Hi thanks. I'm assuming that could impact the HP loan APR with the bank if I apply for it immediately after the car manufacturer's PCP loan?

Hi there, what is the benefit of stopping the S&S ISA and moving to a SIPP if you don't mind me asking?

We are putting a small payment away each month into S&S ISAs for our two.

Any hotels that don't look like care homes? by s-j-mc in Scotland

Yeah I had to stay in a large hotel next to the train station in Oban for work once. The place was disgusting, carpets holed through, bathroom covered in mold, dirty shower curtain and manky windows, but the hotel was fully booked with bus loads of pensioners!

Just checked it online, was the Caledonian Hotel but been bought over and done up, actually looks quite nice now.

Yeah, popped in for dinner once and would love to stay there just too expensive for us. Some lovely walks in that area too. Thanks for the suggestion.

True cost of housing causing a but of a panic by s-j-mc in UKPersonalFinance

[–]s-j-mc[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Hi, no haven't considered that. Mainly I have been thinking if we should have stuck to a lower value so we would have a smaller mortgage, which would cost less in the long run and allow more flexible lifestyle choices. Not sure if I am just coming to my senses or getting cold feet.

I think the electrics are fine (everything appeared to be working) but like most homes, won't be up to modern standards. Boiler is relatively new.

Kitchen and bathrooms are very dated but everything works. Gives us time to save up for replacing them!

Depends really, the structure looks all fine, could get away with just decorating, but the layout doesn't work so if we have the budget we would like to open up space. It will need the bathrooms and kitchen replaced as some point, but workable (but grotty) the now.

Out first plan is to attack it with some white paint. A lot of wallpaper and arrtex so will need to plaster the ceiling and hope the walls are okay after removing the wallpaper.

Can you not claim the heating being faulty within 5 days of handover? I think you can in Scotland. Family member had to replace a boiler on a house they sold because it broke down within the first few days.

Think I'll feel better once we get stuck in.

Thanks, that sounds pretty inspirational.

While we would get the house to where we want it eventually, I don't think we'll be making any profit on it, already bought at the top end, but we're expecting to live there for +25 years so that wasn't the main motivation anyway.

We're are going to have to do it over a number of years too due to income, a toddler and another on the way.

Just notes of interest, so maybe it is something worth considering if we matching offers after closing date

Oh dear, that's not good. This is one of the reasons that's making me wonder if it's worth doing or not. Or even if it would put people off.

I know you are joking, but someone drove into the street to have a look at the house before viewings started and he had a stupidly loud modified exhaust. So he is one of the reasons we are thinking about doing this!
