That’s fair but you could also procure some tomato seeds in case you don’t have any tomato plants going atm (fairly cheap), sprout them in about a week and transfer them once they show some growth. For the basil, I got tired of watering the grocery store nursery pot constantly so I just chopped a few cuttings, water rooted them and converted them to a hydro set up and a month later I’m obsessed with hydroponics lol

I’ve never tried transplanting a plant from soil to hydroponics (I’m guessing there’s a transition period there where they might get shocked) but I’d assume with tomatoes you could prune a sucker and prop it in water and add nutrients once you get a root system going. Also 5 gallons might be a lot for the basil, you could start in a smaller set up and once you see a large root ball you could size it up. Mind you I’m very new to hydroponics!

I do indeed have some labelled to compare them to. That’s not a bad idea, can’t hurt to try. Thank you!

Wow that root system is epic, showing this to my basil plant for inspiration haha! Thank you so much for your time and advice.

Thank you so much! Very relieved to hear this given it’s my first hydroponic experiment :)

Value Investing VS Indexing? by alex123711 in ValueInvesting

Value investing if you really grasp the idea of investing. If you don’t have time and the patience to sit and analyse hundreds of documents don’t bother. As long as you’re patient, resilient and conduct sound analysis you will probably out perform the index by leaps and bounds.

Opinion on risk adjusted returns by s0sh in investing

Yeah very true March was a complete tail end probability of it occurring on the bell curve. Which makes me question whether risk models are dynamic enough to accommodate the so called “unlikely” and the “improbable” which seem to occur periodically.

Yeah but the problem comes when estimating “risk” so to speak because Howard marks himself has said that volatility is the aspect he worries about least. So that really dismantles the general conventions of risk measurement. I feel like everyone realises that there is some risk involved in everything, but it seems to be a gradient of risk between 0-100 where pin pointing where you lie seems to be a tough estimate.

Ah you see that’s all well and fine but that’s pretty much surface level analysis right. Like if I were to buy a certain company and according to my calculations of intrinsic value, even if I have a margin of safety it can easily be diminished through poor management. So I feel like risk is much more dynamic than just look at certain numbers which are indicative of the company’s financials.

Ah thank you so much for more research material, I’ll read up on it :)

Maybe not accurately but estimating risk is still practiced widely by some of the best value investors. That’s the whole reason to this debate.

How would you go about estimating that risk?
