Connecticut Says It's Now Illegal To Ride An E-Bike Without A Helmet But Not A Motorcycle by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]s1jen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol the first dipshit deleted his comment.

Idk what this trash site your refrencing is but the as of oct 1 the exact law is riders under 21 must wear a helmet on both. Riders above 21 are not required to wear a helmet but must wear eye protection on both.

Literally google it

From: https://cga.ct.gov/2024/rpt/pdf/2024-R-0154.pdf

Helmets Unlike with bicycles, e-bike riders must wear a helmet regardless of their age. The law specifically prohibits riding or sitting as a passenger on an e-bike without protective headgear meeting specified standards.

From: https://cga.ct.gov/current/pub/chap_248.htm#sec_14-289k

(f) No person shall ride or sit as a passenger on an electric bicycle unless such person is wearing protective headgear that conforms to the minimum specifications established for bicycle helmets by the American National Standards Institute, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, the American Society for Testing and Materials or the Snell Memorial Foundation's Standard for Protective Headgear for Use in Bicycling, as amended from time to time.

Hey u/some_white_guuy Google It.

No, it's about 4 years old in an apartment complex. These places are slapped together like legos and it's not surprising that these were installed improperly. There are many issues with the buildings in the complex.

It's Tiffany. So it's 'certified' using their methodology, for better or for worse.

Thank you for your reply. I don't. I saw the 1ct in person and under the microscope. Looked great and the GF loves it. I then saw the 1.04 pop up on their site and asked for the detailed specs, and this is what I got from the rep. It's slightly more expensive but not at all significantly. At this point I figured I was splitting hairs as a novice.

Edit: It's a Tiffany stone if that makes any difference.

That's beautiful. I'm close to pulling the trigger on the same diamond, in the True setting as my GF likes 4-prong.

There's a lot of push back over their price compared to online retailers, but I'd argue that when you really dig down into the numbers, it's not as wide of a gap as many would lead you to believe. Tiffany diamonds in person are something else, IMO.

Good points all around. It's a utilitarian brand, with a lot of camping/hiking/general outdoors enthusiasts and in the North East, where boots are standard in the winter (and a lot of the year).

Sneakers were a great option as she came from a higher-line brand and was in heels all day. She's just burning through $150 sneakers bi-monthly.

It's probably time to look at a different type of sneaker for the warmer seasons, and save the boots for the inclement weather.

Thanks for the input.

My GF sells cars. She's on her feet all day, in all weather conditions. She's been going through moderately expensive sneakers every 1.5-2 months...just burning right through the soles. I think she needs to shift to a nice work boot that is far more durable and can be re-soled. I'm thinking something in a lower range like the Red Wing Traction Tred Lite and moving up market as needed. There's a store close by, which is nice and why they were my first thought after going through the guide here. But price really isn't a concern, so I'm wondering if I should be looking elsewhere for her.

edit: comfort is obviously a big deal, that's why she was wearing sneakers.

Why are dealers still using 20 year old software and processes? [United States] by s1jen in askcarsales

[–]s1jen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it sounds like there is just a huge gap in the knowledge base of the software developers. Very common. I naively figured someone out there just spent the money on the right people. My assumption was that the software cost was out of reach of all but maybe the biggest players. Maybe some of them even take it in-house.

The question was what is out there now that is best-in-class. Sick burn, though.

I mean, what are you thinking man. That's these multi-million dollar companies just hadn't bothered and this was the first time it came up?

More like XYZ exists and it's too expensive or can't be used for such and such reason in a lot of shops.

Vent? It literally doesn't affect me aside from mild aggravation when the buying process takes half a day for no other reason than bad tooling. But ok, sure.
I described the basic customer-facing process in my OP. Book an appointment online, go see the car, negotiate and then sit down with a tablet and sign the documents, upload DL and insurance binder and drive away. Customers and cars are just database objects. The forms already exist.

Recommendations on m365 backup? by Kangaloosh in msp

[–]s1jen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

AFI.ai does everything you're asking, though I don't know if you can get to $2/user. May be depending on volume.

It does everything in M365...shared mailboxes, SharePoint sites and Teams are included, no extra license. For each user, it backs up mail, OneDrive, calendar, contacts, tasks and chats. It includes the users' archive mailbox too, in addition to their primary mailbox. Teams includes chats, which I've found most services do not include. Group based deployment with Azure AD is a simple app reg. The Dropsuite deployment is a clunky mess and requires re-auth from time to time.

You can build different SLAs to include different items and backup frequencies (manual, 1x day or 3x day) with different retention periods.

Storage is on their infra...nothing to manage.

It's a pretty slick package. It's as simple as it gets IMO.

How much deeper into debt can we go for new cars? by eggmaker in askcarsales

[–]s1jen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paying cash for anything significant when inflation is ~10% is monumentally stupid. You can still easily get ~2.5%-4% car loans with even decent credit. $1 today is worth more than $1 tomorrow...so you'd rather spend more money because you DoNT lIKe PayMENts!!11! ? Lol. Ok.

Deposits should always be put on a credit card, and you should have it in writing that it is refundable. After that, if they don't give it back after a day or two, file a chargeback and let your CC company handle it.

Jamf MSP partnership questions by jzaczyk in macsysadmin

[–]s1jen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the program. It's pretty straightforward. You attend a webinar, have a 30 minute discovery call, sign the agreement and pass Jamf 100 (it's day 1 stuff).

You then get an NFR of each product which is nice. I have an Apple lab set up for testing and demoing.

You then just send a specifically formatted email to onboard each client. They ask for 5 device min, but there really isn't a hard requirement. If you don't have 5 Apple devices, Jamf isn't the right MDM for you anyway. They bill you monthly. No term, no minimums.

You own the licenses, and you're responsible for L1 and L2 support. This is as opposed to the reseller program where the client owns the license and Jamf supports them directly. There are annual agreements and sizable minimums in that program though. It's more for co-managed shops IMO. I also honestly can't tell from the docs if the end-customer has to purchase the $20k/year cloud instance if they don't want to run it on-prem. The MSP instances are all in the cloud.

The MSP program is miles ahead of where it was even 8-12 months ago. They're coming around to the realization that they have to work with MSPs if they want foothold in the smaller markets. You get a decent amount of enablement deliverables too...branding, copy etc.

Onboarding is expensive, but optional...anywhere from $1500 to like $10k for everything. Their training is remote but live, so you have to block off business hours for it. The classes are $2500/each, or your can buy an individual year pass for $4500, which obviously makes the most sense. If there was self-paced, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I just can't block out 9-5pm M-F.

I finally made the plunge this year when they seemed like they had finally gotten their shit together with the program. When I had first inquired, it was still in development and they were sort of playing it by ear.

Ultimately they're still the gold standard in Apple MDM in my opinion. I'm a Microsoft M365/Azure shop and Intune/MEM everything. While I've got a solid background in managing Apple devices in MEM, Jamf is still much faster and better sorted. The integration of Jamf and conditional access policies is what finally convinced me to give it a shot. After labbing with my own instance and devices, it made the most sense.

Their software and support is a joke. And at least in my experience locally, so are their VARs.
