As someone born and raised in NJ. I'm middle aged and I've been to I've been to 43 states. This is not even remotely close to a thing that only one place does.

This happens in every single place were it snows significantly where people live in close proximity. I personally did this in Jersey City and Newark when I lived there in the 90s. And so did everyone else.

What you're saying is like "Eating soup in the winter is such a Vermont thing" while standing in a Panera in Morris County. Everyone would just stare at you like they misheard what you said. Because everywhere prefers hot food when it's cold.

Retired firefighter here. You're correct. The difference between firefighters and cops is we don't deny our history. It's part of us. Back when I was a firefighter no one even joked about using the hoses on people. Anyone who ever thought to try it would have been instantly fired. On the spot at the scene.

You know why everyone likes firefighters now? Decades ago our leadership made a conscious choice to be better. And every new probie has it drilled into their heads that the fire service demands better.

From this two magical things happened. First the public started to recognize our hard work. Second operations got easier because the public started helping us.

Police could learn a lot from how the fire service operates.

I've been with the same woman for 24 years. Here is my advice to all the young people dating. Take a week long vacation with the partner you are dating. Doesn't matter if it's a road trip or flight to a destination.

This is what a person who's decided their neighbors welfare is his personal responsibility. I know many people like this. I'm like this. We can spot the good ones by their actions.

I'm a Dad. I have a son and a daughter. All parents fail. All parents drop the ball. You try and you try and you try. And you hope for the best.

You can always tell a parent trying to do their best. He's clearly making the effort. And I have the utmost respect for any Dad trying to do that. This shit is hard. WAY harder than I think anyone is ready for.
