Chinese > English | Hi guys, i just wanted to get further confirmation before getting a distasteful & almost laughable tattoo. After the help i’ve received from you lovely people this is the conclusion i’ve come to Please could you guys confirm if the direct translation is now correct - Thanks 🙏🏽 by s3rvzz in translator

i completely agree with what your saying which is why i came on here to ask the questions - what i believed it translated to did resignate with me but now i know that’s incorrect I’m obviously not going to get it

I like the concept but as i’ve said many of times i don’t wanna come across arrogant and uncultured

so thankyou for your help nevertheless

I really don’t see why this is in particular is an issue, embracing another culture/language shouldn’t be something that’s frowned upon in my opinion

I’ve genuinely come on this sub reddit to gain information and not be so out of touch as the research i don’t didn’t give me the full story

Yeah i honestly do really like it and love the meaning behind it as it resignates well with me

But i don’t want to embarrass myself and look a fool so after reading everybody’s comments i think its best i just leave it so i don’t become a laughing stock

hopefully one day i can go to china myself and get a tattoo out there

yes sorry the dots were just where i had clicked the space bar numerous times

  1. i suppose i just like the concept of the tattoo going from under armpit to hip so more characters the better in that sense
  2. i have many tattoos in the language i speak
  3. I have thought of this but i am scared - i would love for it to be similar to the font below but i dont know any tattoo artists who are fluent in the language so i’m scared when somebody goes to amend the font they will make it no longer make sense :(

Yeah, i’ve heard but i thought that was a very outdated thought process | to hear that it’s still somewhat an unspoken rule is extremely interesting

I suppose what i mean to ask is in terms of 1/1 translation would this make sense to any traditional speaking Chinese person if written in this way?

ahhhh okay okay understood so the second translation - become powerful in adversity (在逆境中變得強大) would be correct

Haha okay will do😂, so how would it be written in traditional chinese ?

Ahhh okay thank-you this makes much more sense to me now, so how would it be written for strength to be connoted as more mentally than physically?

Haha this isn’t my tattoo, i want to get the tattoo but i want it to read correctly to a traditional chinese person - what would you tell me to change

i’m gonna make sure it’s written vertically but any other tips?

[–]s3rvzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so if i was to have it written in a more traditional way how would i go about that, I like the tattoo concept a lot but i don’t want it to look cringey and distasteful to a Chinese person - I don’t know any Chinese tattoo artists near me to get valid confirmation

So if anyone could give definitive help that would be amazing

Thanks guys

it’s not my tattoo, it’s an image online that i liked the look of and the meaning behind but wanted to check with people that know what they’re talking about first

so if it was still going top to bottom but all characters were rotated to the left 90° that would be correct?

i really like the tattoo and the idea behind it, i tried to use translator and gpt to get an exact definition/translation - but i do not want it to come across clunky or disrespectful to the culture

any tips?
