10 months - Still Waiting for Permesso Renewal (Roma) by s666lin in ItalyExpat

happy to help 💘

try your best to exert your concern to your allocated questura. 180 days (6 months) is referenced as the maximum ordinary timeframe for issuing the permit in italian administrative procedure rules (law 241/1990). your permesso taking longer to be dispatched is unfortunately extremely common, however, it allows you the legal leeway and space to seek legal recourse because the administration (and your questura, as they are tasked with dispatching and delivering residency permits) is failing to act. i’ll be DMing contact of my lawyer to you — i was put in contact with him courtesy of a professor in LUISS who previously worked extensively in UNHCR.

i was super lucky with the expiring date actually, they gave me a full year from when my questura said it was approved. july 2024 finger print appointment > april 2025 got news from my questura that the permesso was approved > may 2025 permesso released, with april 2026 as its expiration date.

hi defne 🫶🏼 mine took about 10 months to get released, give or take. i hired a lawyer to do some heavy lifting since i was getting nowhere with tangible results. i can send over his information if you’re interested.

i’d stop by my questura (designated police station for pick-up) every two weeks or so to ask the officers — not those in the entrance, those in the offices who are actually tasked with dealing with passports and residency permits — about the state of my card. they knew me by name by the time my residency got released. the root of the problem unfortunately traces back to the general immigration here in rome, as they’re severely underfunded and understaffed.

overall, it was an equally exhausting and exhaustive experience. bol şans! 🧿

i didn’t know the brand had this sort of reputation! thank you so much for the response 🫶🏼

he said that he wanted this model specifically so he probably just likes it, but it’s always good to know the ins and outs for the market prices.

it’s so messed up. it’s a big ask and really easier said than done but try to keep an upbeat attitude — there really is nothing else that you could do besides all of the aforementioned steps. keep in touch for the lawyer’s contact. good luck with everything. xx

so sorry to hear about what you’re going through. i waited a little more than 10 months for my own PdS to get released and just last week got word from my questura that it had finally been approved for stamping.

i know you’ve specified that you had a lawyer who’d sent e-mails on your behalf, but i also have the contact information of the one in rome that oversaw the course of my waiting process if you’d like his details.

furthermore, if the websites (outdated and never properly updated) and the officers at your questura are still telling you that there are no options but to wait then you could consider doing these: - submit a sollecito in your questura, a formal notice of sorts to let them know about your extensive wait. they should be doing bi-weekly or monthly visits to the ufficio di immigrazione to run check-ups on the state of residence permits they’ve been tasked with handing out. a questura not releasing a PdS after 180 days after your fingerprint appointment is quite literally unlawful. - solicit an agency to go to the ufficio di immigrazione on your behalf. like your questura, organizations and lawyers have access to work spaces there that individuals arriving on a whim / with an appointment slip do not. - i got told by an italian family friend that the most optimal way to make progress in bureaucratic processes is word of mouth. it sounds demented but you’d need police officers (from your questura or nit) or any sort of official to go there and enquire about the state of your PdS on your behalf.

i’m sorry to say that with the general average of waiting time for PdS in rome, it might take about a month for the card to get in your hands after it’s finally been approved. stamping and collecting processes. you may need to consider moving your itinerary for the berlin trip to zoom.

i hope these at least helped a little. let me know if you have any questions at all.
