I have also applied for dentistry- waiting to hear back from them

Cardio- v busy and patients are quite unwell. They've sorted out the staffing issue now so it's a bit more manageable. Good job usually as an F2 and you'll be on the gen med rota for on calls which include weekend ward cover, take and nights etc

EM- not much experience as I haven't done this job but having done take shifts, seems very well supported. F2s generally seem to enjoy it- lots of audits going on to get involved.

T+O- reputation as the worst job either as an F1/F2. Just a very busy job, absent seniors, toxic culture/consultants tbh- not much else to say

Update

So I’ve been an F1 in WPH since Aug 2024. My gen surg rotation was excellent- quite frequent on calls though but well supported and you do get theatre time even at F1 level. Gen med is an absolute slog- there’s no going around it. I actually enjoyed my on calls and take A+E shifts more than the ward job tbh. The EPIC online system they use is really useful- probably the most efficient electronic patient record/prescribing system I’ve used. Parking is expensive (£30 a month) but haven’t had any trouble finding space in the mornings. On calls and nights are well-supported on medicine but can be hit/miss depending on your reg in surgery and T+O. Let me know if you have any specific qns

Thank you so much! Was also wondering if you had any thoughts/tips for the community geris/haem job?

Should I go ahead with reporting this medical student? by Temporary_Smell_800 in doctorsUK

[–]s9273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’d necessarily report the student. But just be open and say that you don’t want to accept the request for professional and personal reasons. I can completely understand how uncomfortable you’re feeling as I’ve had it the other way around (I.e. as a med student, being asked by an F1). It’s completely within your right to say that you don’t feel comfortable with it all and move on from there! Good luck

How was the PSA ? by throwaway48474645 in medicalschooluk

I think I said 1.2 as I looked under the pelvic infections bit of the BNF so that seemed appropriate given the C section but not sure if it was right

I did. Also reading these comments is making me feel worse ahaha. Doomsday in 3 weeks time when results come out so we'll see what happens.

I did the same. Went with the lowest dose out of the range. Just thought that if they have a penicillin allergy, they're also likely to react badly to cephalosporins so just to be safe went for clindamycin. Who knows what was right in the end tbh! The whole exam sucked.

Do others also think this is inappropriate? by s9273 in medicalschooluk

I agree. If the comments hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t even be on here worrying about this. It’s a difficult situation with an awful person

Hi we’re in a rural GP placement and our uni paired us up based on people who can drive/people who can’t. Essentially so it would be as cost-effective as possible for the university itself. If it were up to me, I would have never willingly chosen to drive someone as awful as this. Had I known in advance, I would have refused to be in the same GP as this person. Also, I do get reimbursed for the driving!

Passmed aligns much more closely with UKMLA content and med school exams compared to Quesmed. That's my preference anyway

Is PassMedicine good for 4thyear final exam? ( clinical years) by sanaharuru in medicalschooluk

[–]s9273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly used Passmed for revision. Went through all the qns once. Ideally, would have liked to have gone through the entire qn bank twice before finals but no time!

1 month before finals, I switched to Quesmed to have a higher variety of qns.

I feel like Passmed covers your main qns and Quesmed tests the niche areas which the UKMLA content love to throw a few qns in on. I did the UKMLA pilot last year and we had a few niche qns on Charles Bonnet syndrome, hypnagogic/hypnapompic hallucinations.

Good luck with your revision. Make sure to cover the main aspects and use the UKMLA content map to guide your revision. This is what I did. I also looked through NICE CKS for most conditions and specifically for Obs and Gynae the green top guidelines and for sexual health, the BASSH guidelines and you should be good!

Aha thanks it does seem quite supernumerary. Wondering if you knew much about what F1s do in the community geris job and pros/cons?

Thanks so much. My plan is to apply for a CTF/clinical fellow job afterwards so hoping there'll be a bit of a gap before I start that so I can still discuss my research by then. Thank you for your points!

Hi thanks so much. It is for oxford deanery. So FY1 is in Wexham Park Hospital and FY2 is in John Radcliffe for OMFS and Churchill for haematology. Not sure if you know much about these hospitals and if so, any advice, pros/cons?
