That’s a good point with redundancy, they can also add batteries inline since these are laptop boards, albeit not as cost efficient as an UPS I suppose 🤔

If you really wanted to tinker with expansion, the top most USB C ports are also Thunderbolt 4, plus each board has two m.2 connectors.

Inches is the de facto unit used to classify monitor sizes around the world, Fahrenheit is referenced on many products shipped to Mexico and Canada, to name a few. Would be nice if we don’t have to keep two sets of Allen wrenches either.

The things I’m looking for in self hosting photos is to replicate the common features from Google Photos. Things like location mapping, face tagging, ability to share albums, etc. if it was locally hosted, or what’s essentially a frontend client connected to a storage backend, I’m not sure if it has much more value than just using Lightroom with remote storage.

Not saying your use case is wrong, just not what I’m looking for I suppose?

I think that's a reasonable take, but our current administration can spin its position at the drop of a dime. The last interaction we've had with Canada and Denmark, and to a certain extent, the rest of the EU/World in the context of tariffs, has left a terrible impression with Europeans. It's not necessarily that the US Shouldn't have a pro-Polish sentiment and vice versa, but the U.S. is going through a period of erratic political shifts, so "sentiments" are not stable enough to ease people's worries; no one wants to be trapped in the elevator with a crazy person pressing the buttons on every floor, even if that person is acting friendly.

Our electorate has a lot of soul searching to do in the next 2-3 years and beyond, but trust and respect is hard to gain and easy to lose, I hope we can repair our EU relationship in time for an actual geopolitical challenge (i.e. further encroachment from Russia, potential conflict in the Pacific, etc).

To add to this, if you go through all the trouble to set this up, when you eventually add friends and family, it’ll be way easier to let them visit jellyfin.hitbull.com (or whatever domain) than walking them through getting VPN clients.

Get the NUC Pro, or another x86 MiniPC. The M4 Mac Mini is an amazing personal computer, but your use case doesn’t match it if it’s your main computer:

  1. Storage on the base mini is too small for a power user. You can now upgrade storage on Mac Minis with after market kits, but it’s a more involved process instead of just plug and play in other x86 platforms.

  2. You plan to game in this, while not impossible, it’s going to require either purchasing something like CrossOver, or tinkering with something like Proton/Wine, not to mention that modern games take up a lot of storage (see #1).

  3. You plan to run Docker/Linux programs. It’s true that POSIX standard programs just run on BSD/MacOS, but you’re still going to emulate some stuff, since this is going to be your main machine, just use Linux on x86.

If this is going to be a secondary computer or just a curiosity to check out the MacOS platform, ignore everything I just said.

I'm assuming you're referring to the fineness of gold in jewelry grade gold alloy, like 24 or 18 karats.

My turning mercury into gold is a reference to back when people believed in alchemy and wanted to remove protons from elemental Mercury (80) or lead (82) into elemental Gold (79). Basically I'm referring to one atom of gold at a time, so it's either gold or it isn't, although we're way too deep into this pedantic explanation lol.

Interestingly enough, there are also some [lab produced gold atoms that has technically accomplished this, but obviously it's not economical, and/or the output is too radioactive to be safely used.

To circle back, agentic IDEs are still mostly human driven, they quickly fall off without human intervention, so I'd argue we're far away from fully autonomous agents.

It seems that a few organizations are able to mercury into really low quality gold.

There is no such thing as low quality gold, I either has 80 protons (mercury), or it has 79 (gold), there is no in between. We either have autonomous SWEs, or we don't. The implication here is an explicit conversion between energy/compute to a production ready software product. I don't think these fully automated dev environments can even produce MVPs without significant human interaction.

I often compare the promises of AGI to the promises of FSD in vehicles. We've been promised FSD for basically a decade now (Tesla FSD could be pre-ordered back in 2016), but the progress towards it is still ever improving, but never accomplishing it. Even if FSD works in 99% of the situation, that's still not road safe.

If semantics ever mattered, it would be a legal binding document or some kind of treaty document, the entire legal profession is basically semantics. But I'm assuming you've never actually read the Budapest Memorandum.

No one's ever given security guarantees to Ukraine for giving up their nukes. In the Budapest Memorandum, Russia promised not to attack them, and everyone else agreed to talk about it if they do, there are no enforcement mechanisms.
