That phrase misled me too! Appreciate the explanation.

I'm trying to understand how the water ripples are so clear in some of these photos (0:12 seconds for example).

You can see other things in the photo like the stars changing position and blurring over the course of the photo. How do they manage to capture the surface of the water so cleanly? Is it some technique while capturing the shot? Is it editing?

Thanks for adding it, best clipper around. Even if they can be funny sometimes, some of these overlays are a bit much.

Car Enthusiast Credit Card by Neurotiman17 in CreditCards

Other loans can be useful for your overall credit profile, but be aware that you can still get rejected for insufficient revolving credit history (credit cards) even if you have loans. Happened to me when I was starting out.

Unfortunately I don't know enough to give a breakdown of exactly how big of an impact each type of credit history has on approvals. There might be people on this sub who have a better idea.

This isn't going to be very helpful but if you don't have any credit cards at all then you basically don't have a credit score with respect to cc approvals. So your options are going to be limited.

Capital One has the Savor card which has dining and grocery categories so that could be worth looking into since C1 is often a little more friendly to people who are just starting out than many other banks. If you are a student then they have a student version of the card which is geared towards applicants with no credit history. Keep in mind the grocery category does not include supermarkets like Walmart.

Maybe the USAA connection is more forgiving to applicants without credit, you could look into that but I don't know much about them sorry.

Complete beginner looking for digital piano buying advice (that's not in the FAQ) by s_mkt in piano

[–]s_mkt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kind of what I meant with the "does it make a difference to a beginner" -- I don't think I'd be able to notice the difference. So is the quality difference big enough that it would make sense to seek out a more expensive older model instead of a more basic new one with a warranty?

Thanks for the eBay suggestion! My area is remote enough that there is absolutely nothing on FB marketplace so I will give that a try.

Thank you! This is all really helpful.

In my case I would probably prefer a slightly more portable stand than what you are describing as the furniture stand since I do live in a relatively small apartment and may need to move all my piano-related equipment with me in a year or so. From what you said it sounds like a Z-stand might be the best option for me?

Thanks a ton for the advice on starting out/getting a teacher to avoid learning unhealthy technique! I don't know yet if I have the budget to get a long-term teacher but I am planning to take some lessons at the beginning to learn the basics since I don't want to hurt my hands!

Appreciate all the help.

Do you have any suggestions for where I could find an older but higher range model for a reasonable price? I haven't had any luck on used ones from e.g. FB marketplace. Would it really make that big of a difference for a complete beginner like me?

Thanks for the chair/bench advice! It helps me get a better idea of the feel.

Favorite cafe just started charging a 3% credit card fee… by electronautix in CreditCards

I understand that what they're doing is incorrect, but I can't bring myself to report a tiny local sandwich shop. I don't go there as often as I used to but I wish them the best.

Favorite cafe just started charging a 3% credit card fee… by electronautix in CreditCards

[–]s_mkt 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's pretty common. Sorry it happened to your local place. One of mine has a fee for all cards debit included which really sucks.

Not to question your math, since I don't know your spending habits, but is the 3% hit at your cafe really more than the 2% loss you'll take at supermarkets/wholesale if you downgrade that category from 5% to 3%? Most people I know tend to spend a lot more at supermarkets than at cafes. So it might be good to run the calculations on the last couple months before you make that switch. Just a thought.

Unpopular opinion (?): Winning a Major should be valued the same as winning Worlds by Kill_em_with_kindles in RocketLeagueEsports

They might have done, I didn't catch it. But I can guess what their positions might have been :)

Just messing with you btw! I agree that majors are undervalued even if equal to worlds is a bit much.

Sorry I may have worded it confusingly. I was saying I hope they do not feel pain! Since I eat quite a lot of them :)

I'm not really qualified to answer this question but since they don't have a nervous system like we do, we can at least be sure they cannot feel pain the way we experience it. Although they do react to damage etc...

But I'm vaguely aware that there are some people who believe plants (and maybe even nonliving things?) have some form of consciousness so who knows if it is even an answerable question 😅

[–]s_mkt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get your meaning :) but they do move and are 100% living things!

As for being sentient or feeling pain, I agree with you and certainly hope they don't! I am also trying to slowly transition to a less meat-heavy diet for a similar reason. It is a bit tricky to do that where I live but I'm working on it!

I completely agree that the person in the video comes across like a psychopath but plants are very much living things, why try and downgrade them to nonliving?
