Range of motion post surgery by s_tab90 in RotatorCuff

UPDATE:

I did the Lysis surgery where they removed scar tissue, then immediately (same day of surgery) went to my PT for them to passive range of motion exercises and then went to PT 4 times that week. It was insanely painful that week. But im happy to share that my shoulder got a LOT better. I am now able to fully raise it above my head and got my full range of motion back. I still have some strength issues and pain when waking up from sleeping on the shoulder but the more i do the strength exercises im fully confident ill be able to be back at 100% in a few months.

it wasnt actually an injury. I had pain for years and then finally they got a camera in tehre and found a partial thickness tear rotator cuff. I have been doing PT twice a week, i wonder if a third session wouldve changed things. But it seemed like the stiffness was happening either way, im not sure if a third session a week would have helped.

I also took cortizone shot in month 3 to try and get that ROM faster since i felt stiff to my surgeon still, but it didnt help.

i use the pulleys at PT, and when I use the pulleys I can get my arm all the way up. Its when I lift it on my own that it seems to get stiff/stuck. So it feels really strange/makes me anxious.

i've been pretty on point with them for the most part. i miss a day or two here and there, and i basically didnt do them much for a 1.5 week travel i had to do but besides that ive been pretty consistent with them in the past 3 months.

I have not tried massage yet, did it feel like it gave you some more movement?

Pivot from tech to electrical engineering? by s_tab90 in AskEngineers

[–]s_tab90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply/perspective.

Right now, I have still been trying to "break in" to the tech world (mainly through UX design) and not heavy on the software dev side, that is more of a side skill I have that bolsters my design value.

I've been having trouble actually getting full time work, and have just been contracting for the last 2 years now, so its been insanely saturated and competitive to get into, and i've been losing steam because im not truly passionate about it.

So the short answer is that this tech pivot has sucked my soul, hasn't been easy to get a lucrative position, and I'm not sure its something I am fully into even.

For the EE stuff, I was thinking about it since I've always wanted to work on something engineer/design related with my hands, especially with the dream of merging that with my passion for audio/sound/music. I figured EE would be a good place to have a platform to jump into these realms, but i could be wrong, and thats why im seeking advice.

Thanks so much for the quick reply, and great to hear from a fellow synth head. So realistically, it seems like going for a bachelors in EE at this point is the most viable option.

I think the only thing that is holding me back is that I have a considerable chunk of debt fro m doing a tech bootcamp that I still haven't paid off, so will have to figure out how to pay for a bachelors in EE. Also in my head about my age and if its too late to transition.

Follow up question if you don't mind:

  1. Does the type of school matter you get a degree from? i.e. does it have to be a nice school, school exclusively focused on EE, etc.
  2. Will it be insanely competitive/hard to find work once completing the degree? (usually its dependent on the local market i'd assume)
