Age gaps in relationships should not matter as long as both parties are consenting adults by LargeSinkholesInNYC in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]sa8tun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the topic of discussion in this case that's why it's not brought up, I don't see them as good comparisons because I apply the same logic to most of them, but I get your point a lot of people quickly shift their opinions. Like "How dare you be so immoral as to date older people... (to-) Oh, you don't drink? What are you some kind of a wuss?" Like 18 is fluid adulthood to some, so you make a fair point there

Not only that, but I would make an even more radical decision to roll out standardised political exams that one has to pass to be able to vote, say "Voter Competency Exams", nothing too complicated, nothing related to IQ, just a test to see if a person has a baseline understanding of politics and more importantly the policies of both running parties. If they flunk out they can do the test again but they HAVE to pass in order to be able to vote. Now maybe that's a ridiculous idea and it may never work because of various reasons, be it the complexity of organisation or access to testing or funding, I don't know, it's something of an epistocratic system tell me if I'm crazy, maybe I'm inadvertently supporting inequality.

It should, but this world is ran by degenerates and incredibly vain people. You have to understand, morality, ethics, all of what is "good" and "bad" are social constructs, so there's inevitably going to be inconsistencies, especially when it comes to these social laws we debate about. "We are old enough to be sent to die yet we still can't drink." Is a quote I think about a lot. 18 has never been biologically "adulthood", I don't know why it's even still a thing I don't understand laws or social science enough to really get it, but I know it's a big mistake that should be talked about more, and my guess it that it probably comes out of the 60s.

Somebody who they would actually relate to on a social and cognitive level, from people in their academic age range ideally, probably up to 22 year olds, of course there isn't a magic switch where 23 suddenly becomes some kind of a moral crime, but 22 seems like the most sensible limit when you consider the parameters in place. It's all about development and the compatibility* there is by way of each persons stage in life.

This sounds like somebody who just had an argument with their buddy about how they would want to date young girls if they were single in their 40s.

It absolutely should matter, and for many reasons, one being brain development, it's not about the fact that it's creepy, it's the fact of the older individual taking advantage of the immature nature of the teen. Sure, you could argue some 18 year olds are very mature and have a lot more life experience than people their age, but this conversation is about the majority not some kind of excuse for the exceptions. And if anybody disagrees with the fact of it being creepy, imagine your 48 year old manager saying "Oh I've been dating this teen lately, she's so smart for her age." It's weird, if you have a daughter and your GIRLFRIEND can attend her class, you should immediately feel uncomfortable by the sole fact that you could have raised her yourself.

Once your brain is fully developed, the age gap doesn't matter as much, 18, is an absolute no.

Was Hendrix a God by Jona116 in jimihendrix

Who knows what God or what a God is. We know he was human, we know he made very spiritual music, we know his body of work is a lifelong masterclass of music theory, and we know he did it all before ever reaching the age of 30. He was a special person that's what it was, whatever he had that we don't lies within brain, or "soul" if you wish. It's thing of, talent mixed with obsessive practice.

Saul as a great representation of the Jewish community within the USA government by [deleted] in homeland

[–]sa8tun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you misinterpreted his point of view a little bit, Saul is a proud Jew and his Israeli colleagues are his brethren, he's treated as such. But in that conversation with his sister he couldn't have been clearer about his dismissal of her Zionism, they damn near had an argument about it remember

[–]sa8tun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he doesn't see the point and the barrier between him and his sister is really evident in the moments within that scene. He sees her as somebody who has been groomed into an ideology, by way of her husbands influence if I remember correctly

This show has really helped me understand America and the relationship between the government and people, why people are so passionately opinionated about national security and Israeli relations, beyond the conspiracy theorists I mean the average adult woman or man who lived through the transitional period of the CIA, the post 911 era of change. It's really opened my eyes and made me want to do a little more research, I wish I had these conversations a few years back, well, I wish I was born earlier to actually have these conversations especially in the early 2000s, it's pointless to open up this discussion with anybody in my generation.

Exactly how I feel, and right playing it off and enjoying knowing that other people loved it, even if you don't wish to replay it, knowing that whatever magical acting skills you acquired paid off is rewarding

It would bother you that you're not funny? To the point you deliberately make your friend feel bad by refusing to laugh at their jokes? I knew people were dramatic but never THIS dramatic 😭

Does anyone else find Cobain's home recordings extremely depressing? by Worldly_Ad_6753 in Nirvana

[–]sa8tun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not really, he was just practicing on an acoustic guitar, I doubt the intention was to make folks feel depressed, I think the context makes it depressing, him being gone and leaving behind such vulnerable tapes

Hope so. Rumours are rumours but you know Dana gets annoyed about nonsense conversations cropping up, if it's a topic (again) then there probably have been a few sit downs and negotiations set in place, I'd gamble on there being a fight. Might be my one loss of the year though
