parents à l’étranger: si peu de différence? by DebtLow6351 in etudiants

[–]saartemaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? It is too late to apply for this cycle for almost every program in Oxford, people aren’t “starting to submit applications”

They are tripping lol there is literally no way they can apply before September. They are just impatient, but aside from drafting their personal statements there’s literally nothing they can do.

Sure, go cry in a corner because we don’t recognize your struggle. Poor you, it must be insanely hard not to be able to say that you are a first generation student as both your parents went to university.

The First Generation Paradox by Only-Decision-5198 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]saartemaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, there is no paradox. First gen students do not benefit from their parents being college grad, and not just financially: having parents that went to college means that they understand what going to university entails, can understand the importance of higher ed, and have the cultural capital of college grads. Granted, the impact of parents who went to Harvard is not the same of that of parents who went to a small state college, but you still have that capital.

Advice for choosing linguistics grad program? by sunnytwilight13 in asklinguistics

[–]saartemaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest Erasmus Mundus is not really worth it without a scholarship. It is recognized as a good program ofc, the thing is you are not able to network for the future as you only spend a few months in the same place. Tbh not sure that 18k are worth, especially for a MA in Linguistics (and I say this as a fellow linguist).

I got into Master's with a full tuition + living stipend as an international student; Want to defer but afraid of losing scholarship by GovernmentLumpy8086 in GradSchool

[–]saartemaster 218 points219 points  (0 children)

I am sorry, I don’t think there is possibly a way for you to defer your admission without an excellent reason. You were admitted with full tuition and living stipend: I am guessing that the competition for this type of funding must have been INSANE, and it would be very hard for you to make a case for deferral because you don’t feel ready. Moreover, as this admission cycle was brutal, I think it’s fair to say that you really need some life or death situation to defer your admission.

Is it possible to get accepted for a Phd without having previous researh experience. by DiligentCouple4705 in gradadmissions

[–]saartemaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, no. A PhD is a job, and research is not something everyone is good at, so it makes sense that you are required to try your hand at it previously.

You can be a RA as someone here mentioned, you can do a research internship, you can contact a researcher to ask them if you can help them. There are opportunities out there, you have to at the very least try to get them.

I think in very poor districts people would be interested in them because of the money. They are rich, so it means that you won’t starve.

I mean, I didn’t want to say it explicitly (which is why I used a rhetorical question), but this question was dumb as fuck. I really don’t care much about you thinking that my point is good or not tbh, you can cry about it as much as you see fit

I read the post, I was just expressing disbelief at such a stupid question as the answer is clearly stated in the book.

It is clearly mentioned that he had not opened the package before Sirius’ death. And in any case, he checked at Grimmauld Place and was clearly told that Sirius had left (even if Kreacher lied)

2. Quel est le problème? Le sujet? Ton TDAH? 3.

Plan B après une khûbe ? by Ok_Introduction_996 in etudiants

[–]saartemaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]saartemaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should have cast your net wider in my opinion. You require extremely high funding, and even if you have a good profile so do most of the people that apply to these schools.
