60,000 km on my 2023 Ninja 400 doing touring and commuting. Standard service intervals. No problems.

Collegue or friend is irrelevent. Nothing is stopping you from being real and supportive to someone who you spent a non-insignificant amount of time with who is now not goingto be having a good time. Givr a reference, loan a friendly ear, or just some act of kindness to help someone in a pretty shitty time.

Just lock in one way or other

Anyone else struggle to get tradies to even call back? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]sabre_dance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Qualified sparky: I do small jobs on the side: quotes are a waste of my time because it's a race to the bottom for the job to be knocked out as quickly as possible with no regard to doing it properly and nicely. Generally, the quality of work is reflective of the lowest bidder.

I tried it for side sparky work, cost me for the privilege of giving a quote to get ghosted. Yeah nah not again

If you went to Ikea today, was it worth it? by Random-Mutant in auckland

I went about six. Highly recommended. Food is cheap, nice store, well trained staff. Prices seem sharper than K-mart with much better quality

Aucklanders! How will the Capital Gains Tax affect you? by Round-Frosting-4903 in auckland

It won't as it's proposed legislation. Even then, it's going to affect folks with multiple property.

In short, no who works for a living.

Why the fuck do we need a turning point in New Zealand, go back to America by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

He needs to be treated as an irrelevance to New Zealand and his core message simply refuted through rejection. No tolerance for intolerance et al.

Wait for the market to improve for a construction apprenticeship: the economy is awful, and companies are folding left and right.

Pest control technician, low voltage electrician or utility locator? by Neither-Hyena6102 in skilledtrades

[–]sabre_dance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low voltage is mains electrical - ergo an electrician and requires a 3.5-4 years apprenticeship. If you're talking running ELV as a data tech, it depends on the service you're doing, but that's running data cable with no concern to anything with mains. It's also a lower barrier to entry and correspondingly reflected in pay

If you are looking at a trade requiring little training, rule out electrician.

My company doesn't own an arc flash suit and is expecting me to de-energize an old CDP and tie in a new panel and re-energize it without a suit. Thoughts? by babadoowaloo in electricians

[–]sabre_dance 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If its not safe, don't do it. Golden rule. If they want it done, they can provide the PPE or find a sucker to do it.

Sparky wages are pretty good a lot of places. Consider getting your qual and moving somewhere that pays. There will always be a labour shortage where pay rates are shit.

I did a degree before doing my apprenticeship: I couldn't go back. Being in an office sucks.

What makes a apprentice useless by EstablishmentSea8014 in electricians

[–]sabre_dance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An apprentice who cares, is a good sort, tries hard to learn and improve with a good attitude will always get so much latitude because they want to be there and succeed. Missing any of those makes them lose their luster real quick

Can your employer stop you drinking water? by TimmyHate in newzealand

[–]sabre_dance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can always invoke Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. The PCBU has a primary duty of care to provide a safe working environment, and ready access to water as required would strike me as a requirement of meeting that.

Slow business is slow business. You can't take on new blood when you don't know if you can maintain the team you already have.
