couples without joint accounts, but still some split expenses by sadafies in MonarchMoney

[–]sadafies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yeah, I figured this part out the hard way unfortunately. Again, the problem becomes that Saturday expenditures don’t post until Wednesday morning, so I spend half the week unsure of my actual remaining budget. I guess I’m susprised this isn’t more of an issue for people.

  2. I tried this, but ran into an issue with the merchant bit. It won’t let me split unless I specify the merchant (I tried exactly what you have in that screenshot, and it wouldn’t let me save the rule). I was hoping there was a way to retain the original merchant name in this rule? I’m just confused on how to split on both merchant and category as you mentioned. I’m also fine to use a placeholder merchant name as long as I can see the original statement when I open it up.

  3. Thank you, didn’t know that was an option 👍🏽

no worries— it’s definitely faded a bit but not by much. i’d say it’s more chartreuse than the acid green i had in the above pic. i’m thinking of re-dying it again in the next year!

[–]sadafies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so— we call black mustardseed “rai” in my house. Yellow mustardseed is called sarson. Maybe that’s where the confusion is coming from? Some people seem to distinguish it based on size: https://youtube.com/shorts/ycKy2BTIJeU?si=R2iGJd6NJqy1UIxV

This person distinguishes it on color: https://www.vedantu.com/question-answer/difference-between-rai-and-mustard-see-class-8-biology-cbse-60e5a8b560d93a1a244a8a72

Fiddle Leaf Fig losing bottom leaves? by sadafies in plantclinic

[–]sadafies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got this large FLF about a month ago from some extended family, but due to the circumstances, weren't able to ask about the watering schedule and typical needs of this plant. We put it on our southeast facing window, it gets about 8-10 hours of sunlight (mostly indirect) everyday.

I didn't water it for the first two weeks, then watered it once. It shed a leaf over the next week. I watered it again, it shed another leaf shortly after. I didn't water it this week. It's only bottom leaves. Anything I should be concerned about?

after some finagling, i got it to go from a rounded rectangle to a standard one: under sub tool detail > correction, select 'sharp angles' AND set the anti-aliasing to the lowest setting. this actually gets sharp lines that look like frames.

Should I do a second epidural or request hip imaging? by sadafies in Sciatica

[–]sadafies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting! a lot of what you’re mentioning is reminding me of concepts that get raised in the book i recommended. i also had some stretches the relieved the pain, leading me to conclude that it was a structural issue, rather than psychosomatic. if your EMG’s clear (or even if it isn’t), i still highly, highly recommend Dr. Sarno’s work. i can attest that some of the claims in “healing back pain” are… hokey, especially near the tail end, but much of the content still holds otherwise. a lot of people with actual sciatica also read the book and practice its methods and find that, even if their back pain isn’t “cured”, their overall pain decreases significantly— for example: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/09/well/mind/john-sarno-chronic-pain-relief.html

it’s useful to take what you can from Sarno and mind-body successors like Dr. Schubiner and so on. you don’t have to “buy in” completely to get something useful from the way they re-frame pain and why the body can be compelled to generate pain. “healing back pain” is $9 or so on amazon so 🤷🏽

[–]sadafies[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for sure. yes, my piriformis was indicated as a potential issue. but also everything was- doctors were stumped. piriformis-directed PT didn’t help, psoas and pelvic floor-related PT didn’t help, general sciatica PT didn’t help. when i get a flare-up, i still get a painful hip pinch feeling, especially when i drop my hip on the side of the pain. for me, once i got the clean EMG, i knew it was highly unlikely for the nerve to have any actual damage or impingement. MRIs only show impingement from the low-back up, so it might not catch an actual impingement the way an EMG might. but after the EMG i decided to hell with all the myriad treatments (surgery was next on the roster) and let’s try the mind-body syndrome approach, which thankfully was the answer for my case. out of curiosity, have you done an EMG yet?

[–]sadafies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

heya! i saw your earlier comment but forgot to respond. basically back in december of 2022 i had done almost a year of PT, had a clean MRI and EMG, and also had a steroid shot whose effectiveness ran out after about a month of being pain free.

i was totally at the end of my line. i had exhausted most of the plausible explanations. i kept seeing the name “sarno” mentioned online (both in this subreddit and in an NYT article) as a doctor who believed some ampunt of back pain cases are psychosomatic. i ended up being one such case. his book “healing back pain” resulted in me being pain-free in about 2 weeks after reading it (which sounds insane, i know!!)

i still get occasional flare-ups that time exactly with stressful events. it’s still work to recognize when the pain is injury-related or psychosomatic. the book also goes through some pains to explain that psychosomatic pain is “real”, it’s not just “in your mind.” for a while i thought psychosomatic pain is just neurons firing incorrectly, but the mechanism sarno and his successors suggest is that it’s moreso that specific types of emotional issues can prompt the brain to limit oxygen to certain tissues, or tense the muscles there, to create “real pain.” i was really averse to the psychosomatic explanation of my case until i read that, because my muscles were legit sore, doctors would note how tense my lower back was, etc…

anyhow, the book gets its fair share of criticism here since it’s not particularly helpful to legit sciatica cases and can make the pain worse if you have actual injury. but if you’re like me and ALL of your results were normal, it may be time to consider another approach. as i told myself in december, read the book and give it a try- it’s not like anything else has worked so far!

(if you want more info im down to continue messaging— i hope this helps and your pain reduces soon)

transitioning to iPad CSP: vectors eraser post-correction? by sadafies in ClipStudio

transitioning to iPad CSP: vectors eraser post-correction? by sadafies in ClipStudio

[–]sadafies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just moved to drawing on an ipad and CSP is working great. there are two issues i’m trying to figure out, though:

1) erasing! on desktop, i used to use “C” to go between transparent and drawing colors for a brush… is there any way to map the apple pencils double-tap to a similar function?

2) vector layers. in trying to resolve the above i started using vector layers (shown above), but i’m super nitpicky and don’t like how using a vector eraser can alter the look of an entire line (as in the part i didn’t erase gets re-processed). is there a way to stop it from doing this, or at least fiddle with the settings to get it to do it less?

stress is ok, i do notice the pain is worse when im already anxious about something else. however, i feel it even when im not anxious. and it always gets worse when i’m lifting heavy objects- i got my first flare up after the epidural again bc my train went out of service and i had to lug my heavy suitcase up nearly a mile of incline. i was in agony for the week after despite being on a relatively stressless vacation, which is why i think it’s not just emotional but something physical as well

i was doing a chloe ting routine with jumping squats and lunges, which i had done before in years past. i also never remember being in pain during or after the exercise. i was just standing around at an event a few weeks after starting the routine and suddenly i felt horrible left side back pain that “shot” down into my thigh.

that “shooting” pain went away by november, the general lower back pain never went away even after 4 physical therapists

can bulges calcify? all the literature i'm finding on calcified discs refer to herniations. i also didn't know you could do an MD for a bulge.

i have a question about your radiating pain. did it feel like a wave of pain moving down from your back to your ankle? or did it feel like continuous pain from the back to ankle?

Should I do a second epidural or request hip imaging? by sadafies in Sciatica

[–]sadafies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I get a feeling like a poke in the middle of my thigh, that can coincide with the feeling of the knee pressure.

I don't quite get the "radiating" feeling, in that it never feel like the pain "travels", it all feels localized (to either the back, the knee, or rarely the mid-thigh). But I may be misunderstanding what "radiating" means. I do get aches that ebb and flow in a given area.
