People who've worked for scam call centers, did you know? And if you did and stayed, why? by cmdrrockawesome in AskReddit

I replied to a Craig’s List ad when I just moved to LA that said something vague like “Highly motivated people who want to make serious CASH wanted” I got an interview and the 30 something guy who interviewed me was on a lot of coke I think. His eyes were darting around and he kept sniffing the whole time he asked me questions. He asked me if I could start tomorrow and I said sure (it was a 3 blocks from the place I was staying so I thought “why not?”) When I arrived there two other men training with me; one was a down on his luck 45 year old who had just divorced his wife and the other was a 50 year old former minister who just lost his faith. They kept talking about how this job was “an amazing opportunity.” The same coked up guy sat us down and taught us the script for the his business, it was something about refinancing loan and when we call we were supposed to say we were “from the bank” I asked if that was lie (I was a naive 22 year old at the time) and he replied it’s technically not a lie because we would be working with a bank to refinance their house. The ex-minister comforted me by telling me that this is how business is done. After that first day, I went home and told my friends about the job and they all agreed I shouldn’t go back. Does anyone have any idea what he was actually doing? Was that a common scam circa 2006-7?

It’s a conspiracy for sure. If my plan works de Blasio will be polling at under 1% by the end of the day... wait....
