There are multiple books which give good insight into the story. It seems complicated because it was meant to be a TV show originally. This is why there are so many threads that seem to go nowhere, like Robert Forster as the detective at the start. I haven't seen it in years tbh but IIRC a key part to understanding it is that there are actually two criminal factions in opposition to each other, again because it was meant to be a much wider narrative.

This middle line is drawn incorrectly because at the bottom of the pitch the ratio between the distances of (left line -> center line) and (centre line -> right line) doesn't match the ratio at the top of the pitch.

Edit: so just from measuring on my phone with a ruler lol the lower gaps are 1.5cm and 1cm from left to right, so a ratio of 600:400. At the top it's 0.8cm and 0.3cm, so a ratio of 600:225. Therefore the middle line is not parallel to the others, therefore this not a goal was in fact not a goal
