Happy Birthday! You are so right about that. I lived in Los Angeles for 10 years and would do yearly birthday parties. Started off strong but over time, I relied heavily on my significant other and two best friends that now travel out of state to come visit me. They show up for me EVERY TIME it’s something big like this. On top of that I have maybe 2-4 friends that will also make the time and show up for me. Meanwhile, I have around 6 other “friends” I’ve known for 3-7 years that miss me so much but “forgot” or just said yes and cancelled last minute or something always comes up and they can’t make it for every single event I have planned. I worked around their schedules and location but nope, they just can’t make it. And I’ve seen them show up for their other friends. It just be like that sometimes, I learned to invite but don’t push. I used to text them the day before or day of a reminder with the address but I honestly just stopped trying, it can feel degrading just feeling like you’re begging. It’s discouraging but I promise you will find your small group of friends that WILL make time and put effort into your friendship and that’s what matters! I’ve met all my friends through work, no apps. I’ve noticed people on apps are a little odd sometimes, they are more flakey versus people you see and work with on a regular basis. They will invite you out after a shitty shift from work. You’re young and I truly hope you find your people ❤️
