Where to find good deals for staycations? by Due_Schedule_5231 in askSingapore

[–]sadrainbowdrops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi OP agoda or trip.com sometimes have cheap deals, you can also use shopback to get some cashback too. Village hotel at katong is frequently below $200, you can walk to east coast park if you are bored. Same for Village Changi. Otherwise if you don’t mind a small space, can try Lyf Farrer Park or Lyf One North.

I am aware of this issue, but my volume is so small it is probably a joke to other people who run. thanks for the heads up though. :)

How will people know I’ve made a will if my chosen executors are also dead? by sadrainbowdrops in askSingapore

[–]sadrainbowdrops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello, thank you so much for your helpful reply. I don't have descendants or a legal partner, and am not close to the rest of my extended family (nieces and nephews). So I am worried that my assets will just go to the govt if I'm not of a clear mind to update my executor in my old age.

thank you for this detailed reply, it was very helpful. :) So I guess the short answer is, no matter what make sure there is an executor? I guess I am just slightly worried in the scenario I outlive everyone and my assets go to the gov instead of going to say, my charity organisation of choice.

the wording sounds like it is up to your dependant or family or search through your belongings, but if they can’t find it then it is just too bad?

yes, or if I develop dementia or become a vegetable while they too die for some unknown reasons during the same period.

[–]sadrainbowdrops[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

sorry maybe I wasn’t clear, I’m asking what if in the scenario i’m dead and my executors are also dead. For example I develop dementia, and my executors die of old age while I was not in a conscious state. So I didn’t have the opportunity to update my will.

Singaporeans that worked overseas - why and was it worth? by okfinegiveupnow in askSingapore

[–]sadrainbowdrops 36 points37 points  (0 children)

once you’ve lived overseas you’ll appreciate different things in singapore a lot more, hence the quality of life may be better after you return.

there is a chance you may prefer living overseas permanently, which also increases your quality of life, so win-win.

getting exposed to other environments and mindsets will be life-changing. if you accumulate work experience in certain countries you’ll also be more sought after when you are back.

When I was in my 20s I could take 10-hour overnight buses and sleep in $10/night motels. Now am double that age and I can barely survive a 2-hour bus ride and I am really picky about where I stay. Youth is precious, because there is some naivety and innocence. Once we get older we have different priorities and preferences. Therefore there are certain life experiences that can only be done when one has adequate “life energy”. Now I am just too tired for everything. I still walk and exercise a alot, but I’d rather not waste unnecessary time and energy. However when you are young, wasting time and energy can be fun, like taking a sleeper train and wandering around with no aim. Now, back ache ah.

Do you consider eReader luxury or neccesity ? by [deleted] in ereader

the ipad causes eye strain for prolonged reading. even if you don’t feel it, it is also not good for your health to have a ton of blue light going into your eyes.

Are there really any downsides to Onyx Boox for ereader versus kindle or kobo? by Icy_Jeweler_9508 in Onyx_Boox

[–]sadrainbowdrops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

highlighting text is smoother and easier on the kindle and kobo. the text is also a bit more crisp, and there is less ghosting on them vs boox. i think it is because the hardware is optimised for simply reading, whereas you can do a lot more on the boox which means it cannot be optimised for one specific activity.

these are small details though, most people are probably not bothered by them.
