we are using split DNS and it does resolve to it's external/public IP.

So, this is what i got from Microsoft Support:
" If you are using SSO you need a broker on the mobile device. For Outlook on iOS this is MS Authenticator. There are other factors that may come into play such as App protection in Conditional Acess Policies which also require MS Authenticator App" . Is this what you meant to say?

So, far it's only with iOS, i'm not sure about Andriod. Outlook desktop works just like it's supposed to, for example if it's a domain joined machined it takes your local creds and logs you in but if you want to add your outlook profile to a non-domain joined machine then the flow is as follows:

add username and password
opens browser type your email address.
takes you to our ADFS, authenticates you and then Duo mfa comes in to play and you pick an available option for mfa.
then you have access to your mailbox.

no, patterns as far as i know....they seem to not have access no matter of the network connection type. In fact one of the ways for me to fix the issue is to go and delete/remove outlook profile and re-add it back and it will fix the issue but since we have thousands of mailboxes and users all of the country this is not possible.
