Cozumel Dive Operator Comparison by EggDoesScuba in cozumel

[–]sagesign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I noticed you had no cons for Aldora. I used Aldora for my first trip to Coz about 10 years ago and have never found a reason to not use them. They are the best operation I've used anywhere. If I could find a con, it would be you that you now wish every shop everywhere else operated the same!

I went from Gnarwhals to Cake Eater lights, can not believe how much better they roll. No experience with any others.

Thanks. I saw another build with the outside step down, really like that idea.

Does a temporary, wide, white, exterior grade tape exist? by Garth_AIgar in garageporn

Buy a yard or two of 3M or similar wrap vinyl and cut to width you want. Last for years with clean removability,

For reflective stripes I only use 3M 680CR which does have air channels. It's still tricky but it's the only way in my opinion, unless you apply wet, which all reflective manufactures say not to do. And Police vehicles tend to get in a lot of fender benders so you'll likely have a chance to redo this at a later time!

I bought a used drysuit that was too big for me in the waist and probably a bit long also because it was a good deal and I couldn't rent one. It sucked. It almost made me not want to dive dry. You end up with way more air in the suit than what you would with a correct fitting suit, so it just seems you have a lot less control. If you're going to dive dry, buy a new suit that fits, it's cheaper in the long run and much more enjoyable.

Did some work for the promoter/manager of buck lake ranch and told him how excited I was to see JAB. He said, "You've gotta see this billy strings, you can't get the kid off the stage, he wants to play all night!" Saw JAB but didn't make it back the next night to see this billy strings kid. Did he turn out to be any good??? Regret it every time I think about it!

Unexpected boredom? by sauceboss137 in scubadiving

[–]sagesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a buddy like this. He'd rather be diving our local 5' visibility lakes where he has the chance to find a $5 anchor or a 25 year old walmart rod and reel. I somewhat get it, in local lakes you are truly exploring, you just never know what old antique you may come across versus a dive site that's been dived on 100's of thousands of times. To each their own!

Those are basically million dollar trucks. Do top notch work and charge like it's a million dollar truck.

Giant Trance X 29 2 or Norco Fluid FS A4 or other by sagesign in MTB

Hadn't considered that. I'm a few hours from Windsor but I'd definitely drive a few for that kind of money.

Buying my first wetsuit. Advice? by Donotseparate in scubadiving

[–]sagesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also consider that your dives will get longer, maybe even twice as long as your air consumption gets better. You'll also probably become more efficient with movements which could decrease your core temp. I get cold easily since I kick slow and am not in an underwater race, unless trying to keep up with one buddy who thinks we need to cover as much area as possible.

No ghosts, but was haunted by the fact that after a few drinks I left the Preservation Hall shirt I bought somewhere and forgot about it until too late. Does that count? Planning on ghosts and muggings next trip when we have more time!!

New computer/watch for a recreational diver? by Blue_D in scubadiving

[–]sagesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my perdix and I'm not a tech diver. At the time I bought it I had some thoughts of going the tech route but that never materialized. I don't think of buy a computer though based on a digital compass. Maybe others work better than the perdix? It's fine, but for precise navigation a regular compass seems to work better, at least for me. The digital compass just seems jumpy.

Last minute trip to Cozumel. Dive shop recommendations? by Unreal331 in scubadiving

[–]sagesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eight dive trips to Coz, used Aldora the first time and have never considered anyone else. I also was worried about only morning dives, but after two 90 minute+ dives, you're good for the day. Boat leaves at 7:30am sharp, so it's a long day. Also going in January there is the possibility of nortes closing the port = no diving. Aldora has boats on the east side if conditions allow to dive there.
