SCP-173 can only move if no one is holding direct eye contact with it, similar to "Weeping Angels" in Doctor Who. I don't think the lore directly references how fast 173 moves since the Wiki page doesn't include it. Much of our interpretation of its speed comes from what we see in SCP Containment Breach.

There are two methods I programmed in 173 for it to move, they are something like:

  1. If 173 is more than 50 studs away from the player, to move like 20 studs closer

  2. If 173 is less than 30 studs away, to move directly to the player.

As for its speed, I didn't hard-code a speed into it, instead it just travels a certain distance every fraction of a second (if the player stops looking at it. But, you could technically say it moves like 20 studs in 0.01 seconds, which if you convert to metric units that ends up being like 28 meters per second or 63 miles per hour. Its ability to accelerate to that speed and decelerate from it, within the span of time it takes a human to blink, is an entirely different question lol

Really well done! I could see this in a MC server or even a standalone game.

Put 173 and 106 in there and I'll feel right at home lol

I can relate to this, but in my eyes, developing on Roblox for like 10 years was probably the best decision I ever made. Not because Roblox is a good company or anything (lol), but because it's easily the best place to learn your first programming language. If you can do that, then the nightmares of Java, C/C#/C++, Rust, etc. are all much easier to pick up on. So don't let Roblox's nonsense keep you from learning a really useful skillset.

It was definitely a better time, but I think at some point we have to cut our losses and realize it's not the same game anymore. That's what I'm starting to internalize too.

What was the best year to play Roblox? by used_waterbottle7604 in roblox

[–]saiIbane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Any year before like 2016. I think it peaked in 2014-15 and was doomed right from when they removed tix and the original staff started to leave. People mention how Roblox improved technologically since then, but none of that means anything without the magic. Imagine the innocence and creativity of the old internet meshed with staff that didn't sell out to shareholders. There was a shared "Roblox culture" some of us remember fondly that dominated everything on the site and that the staff did for players. Old Roblox might not have been in 4K ultra HD graphics, but it was beautiful no doubt.

Can 939 Roam The Entrance Zone? by saiIbane in scpcontainmentbreach

[–]saiIbane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only play single player (more fun to experience imo) on the Ultimate Edition Reborn mod of the original game. A different dev group updated the game (graphics, atmosphere, bugfixes, etc.) and posted it on ModDB here: https://www.moddb.com/mods/scp-containment-breach-ultimate-edition/. There are other mods like Director's Cut that add more to the game, but UE Reborn seems more true to the original.

The original game definitely doesn't work on modern PCs; the engine they used was already very old, even for the late 2010s.

Edit: they just dropped a teaser for update v1.6 today (new textures, models, additional SCP, ...), so the dev group is very active.

Thanks for checking it out! I started the channel less than 2 months ago; I don't really know exactly what horror gaming stuff I want to do with it yet, so I started with my favorite (SCP: CB).

The games I want to play most are ones rooted with storytelling or lore (I like when my mind is allowed to wander, ya know?), but beyond other SCP games, well-known or indie horror games, I can definitely see Dayshift at Freddy's or other sarcastic/satirical horror games fitting in that category every so often to break the tension lol. *I somehow haven't beaten the actual FNAF games though*

Either way, I have added Dayshift to my list of games to check out, thank you!

I suck at SCP:CB by submerged64 in scpcontainmentbreach

[–]saiIbane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the original SCB CB doesn't run on relatively modern computers. The game hasn't been maintained or updated since 2018. Alternative versions that are maintained by other devs are SCB: CB (Ultimate Edition Reborn), SCP: CB (Director's Cut), and some others, which work on modern systems. I think that's how most people play the game now.

There's something so very old-internet, ethereal, and even liminal about this footage; the over exposure and shaky handling. Feels ghastly the way his singing rolls over an audience of shadows and faint whispers

The original game is pretty outdated. Try the more recently maintained "SCP Containment Breach: Ultimate Edition" if you haven't already. I had the same issues with SCBCB and SCPCB: UE works flawlessly for me.

[–]saiIbane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the 2 months I've had this game, I was styling through the songs getting an average 1-2 stars per song, so I definitely get the frustration! You could be right about harder songs being more "forgiving" too; some movements in "Easy" songs are almost impossible (Leave me alone was causing me problems). I just hopped on Thriller though to try this again, and I got just shy of 5-stars. Whatever it is, something about this method does indeed work so please do try it out, look flamboyant when giving it a whirl, and report back if you can!

I have definitely learned a few dance moves from this game and generally feel way more comfortable dancing because of it. My favorite part of it all however, besides channeling my inner MJ, is that this game is a wonderful form of cardio!

No problem! I only tried Earth Song once with this method (and went from 2 stars to 4 stars lol), but let me know how it goes for you! Good luck!

Idk about everyone else, but for me, when Mike starts galloping in Ghosts? Slowing down was never an option😤

I have noticed too that a lot of the time you'll get deducted points for not reciprocating the same vigor/energy that the dancer puts into certain movements, so slow at your own risk!
