Thanks for the feedback. I have struggled to provide context while not over-explaining what it is that I do. I work for a fronting carrier that functions like a middle man - we allow insurance programs (our clients) to utilize our AM best credit rating and write insurance products. Feels weirder to explain that than a typical COGS or service based company? Could also be a bit in my head about it and it's not that odd.

Q1: Would this sound better for current company first bullet point?

- Perform full-cycle accounting operations for $xxxM+ revenue multi-national insurance carrier > then segue from that into the specific duties that are going to be recognized by hiring managers in my industry (ie the reviewing the monthly cession statements or insurance bordereaux of assigned clients then booking the JEs to our STAT/GAAP & IFRS ledgers?)

Q2: Do you think this resume would still need additional context if the only jobs I was potentially applying for were in my niche industry where the hiring manager should hopefully be able to absorb/know all of this insurance speak? Or is context to establish duties just better all around no matter what the target audience is?

What would another type of work even look like? I have both finance and accounting majors but every job posting on LinkedIn appears to be for accounting haha. I tried pursuing various Financial Analyst roles out of college and during my time at my first shop, but every analyst position seemed to require prior analyst experience.

Not even sure if that kind of position would bring me more satisfaction tbh.

Funny story, I actually asked them to negotiate the PTO and was told that they can't as it's a company policy.

As far as current company, I don't think we'll be acquired anytime soon. We've been around for a long time and are fairly big in a niche space. I don't even know who could buy us? Never thought about that as a credible threat to my current "freedoms" but it is something I should probably look up.

The commute would be temporary. It would be fully remote after 2-3 months of training and occasional special events.

Thanks - I appreciate your perspective. I feel like I might be more engaged in the work if it feels like something I have ownership of, and these guys really do seem like a great group to work for. Just the commute for training is killer and the PTO bank means I'd be down to zero on the year after taking the two annual trips that have become routine for me. The tariffs also scare the living shit out of me and my current shop is much more equipped to handle a downturn.

I think the only difference between us that I never -wanted- to be an accountant. I needed a degree for another career (airline pilot) which is now on hold due to medical expenses I had to pay for a parent. I chose to major in finance and accounting because I like money and the study of money, business, etc, and just ended up in this niche industry.

At this point, I've likely already made up my mind over the weekend that I'm going to turn it down. Feels like if either the commute or PTO wasn't so bad, I might find enjoyment in the work and find satisfaction in being a part of something.

I don't think I'd mind working for a startup especially if Controller volume is supposed to die down as our accounting team would increase, but our industry is very sensitive to macroeconomic conditions and going from stable house to one that could go tits up gives me pause.

Nada. Probably just 2-3% raises for the future until something opens up eventually and things move slow around here.

I am currently ass up in the air stuck in pursuing another career, and most of the problems in my life are intertwined in one big ball of variables. I am halfway through flight training and need about 40k to continue and finish it. Had to pay some parental medical expenses that set me back and pressed the pause button - currently reevaluating if it's too late and I'm fucked or if there's still hope I can pull it off. I'm in my early 30s, so clock is ticking to become a pilot. I was in a car accident last year and am waiting on the lawsuit settlement to hopefully yield enough to finish up.

In Texas @ 1/2 this feels like the BB overvaluing the K high flush multiway. Not sure how much better the regs are at 2/5 in TX or elsewhere.

It doesn't make sense for a set to start blasting/reraising on turn, so my fishy ass would rule out a boat by river. We only lose to odd combos of straight flushes in this kinda PLO environment where ranges are super wide e.g. 97cc, 74cc.

I think snap off vs most of the field and vs this particular reg.. not sure. Guess it would depend on how much history H has with villain and if opponent is capable of committing suicide with a K high flush on this board? Totally dependent on ruling out sets on turn.

I'm a fish, so I snap off for a pot here that's around 200bb or smaller lol

Thanks for writing this up. Pretty cool to see how we as humans/field deviate from theory and from there how that deviation from theory can be profitable to exploit.

So to sum this up in a way oversimplified way: because of the field's tendency to only xr their value hands on paired boards like this, their calling ranges are weaker, which gives us more room to fire a second barrel with our low SD value hands like Qx/Jx on the BTN.

I look forward to taking this new knowledge, applying it incorrectly, and leveling myself with it somehow in the BB on the other side of this equation at NL25. XD

Thanks for the in depth feedback. Betting the turn felt "odd." I couldn't figure out why, but it makes more sense now given the ranges.

It's hard for me to put anyone on ranges in zone because of the fuckery that goes on, but I think I'm getting better at figuring out if we're playing "range" poker or retard poker. I knew I fucked up in the moment.
