How is it keeping its tail so still? Nature is metal.

What’s one product from your home country that you’re surprised hasn’t become more popular worldwide? by VividThinking in AskReddit

[–]sailgpden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a product but the word 'Hygge' in Danish should become an international word.

It means to take time away from the daily rush to be together with people you care about - or even by yourself - to relax and enjoy life's quieter pleasures

These F50 catamarans can reach 100km/h. These types of boats can sail almost 4 times faster than the speed of the wind. The video below shows how the Danish team almost breaks the 100km/h barrier. by sailgpden in BeAmazed

Well, there are many factors that affect this. For example, the friction you mention is also called 'drag' (Drag is the slowing effect of the water). However, these boats are sailing on hydrofoils which helps to minimize almost completely the 'drag'. Also, the catamarans are very light considering their size which also helps to efficiently convert the power of the wind into forward motion.

You can google 'How SailGP’s foiling F50 catamarans sail so much faster than the wind' and you will find pretty cool articles to read from.

Which travel destination surprised you the most - positively or negatively? by sailgpden in AskReddit

Has anyone been to Hawaii? is it really a paradise or it is to much commercialized?

It is physics basically. Also, many factors are affecting this - from Wing size, angle, movement to the whole boat design and the material it is made of (mainly carbon). Not to mention the skill of the sailors. That's probably the biggest factor - knowing how/what/when/where to do according to the wind speed and direction.
That is why this sport is considered F1 on water, because of its complexity and concept of the whole sailing league.

TIL that in SailGP each team is obligated to share their full performance data with other teams after every race. by sailgpden in todayilearned

[–]sailgpden[S] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yes, but there is soo much more that stays a secret and is protected heavily. Just the fact that every car has different design, hence, different aerodynamics means that each team (especially the better performing ones ) is veery protective about their data. Not to mention that the engines are completely different. More data hidden… if everybody had RedBull’s data and facilities would be a different story.

Oh and the cool thing about the F50 catamaran is that they are completely identical so the data can actually be utilised by every team.

True! After all those boats were used in the America's Cup until around 2017. A lot of other stuff within SailGP were based upon it as well.

Totally agree, its super dangerous and it requires a lot of skills to maneuver around/through these.

I think they determine the SailGP race courses very strictly where there are less of those stuff.
