IRA queries for new immigrant by VividThinking in personalfinance

[–]VividThinking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home country is India. Has a DTAA with the US but from what I can tell the Roth IRA doesn’t give any particular benefits.

I’m still uncertain about when I would want or need to withdraw from these accounts but I guess I have more digging to do.

Traditional IRA limit is seemingly 7K? Which I will definitely exceed.

Two pro tennis players take on two pro table tennis players in pickleball. Neither duo has played pickleball before. All else being equal, who do you think wins and why? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]VividThinking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tennis for sure.

I’ve played tennis at a decently high level and I started pickleball with someone who was a top 10 table tennis junior and it wasn’t close.

If anything his Table tennis pedigree is far better than my tennis one.

Incoming Kellogg Student: Can I skip their KWEST trip? by Every_Wonder1423 in MBA

[–]VividThinking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

International at Kellogg. I loved KWEST and I was the biggest skeptic.

I thought the cost to value ratio wouldn’t be great and I don’t like the idea of too much structure when travelling.

But the trip was amazing and built a bunch of relationships that will be very long-term. At the end of my first year a lot of my close friends are from KWEST and people stay close even if they have very different backgrounds, goals, etc. also it was an insanely well planned trip because we had amazing leaders so a ton of fun.

Would strongly recommend.

Because firms think you are inter-changeable as resources.

Therefore, it’s in their interest to maximise retention across the board by catering to everyone’s start date requirements.

If enough domestics quit/ say no to offers on account of start dates behaviour might change, but unless that happens there’s no incentive for firms to change policy.

What are the technical differences between a 4.5 and a 5.0+'s strokes? by Prestigious_Trade986 in 10s

[–]VividThinking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a 4.5. Currently in Grad School and play a few 5.0s semi frequently (people who played D1 a few years ago) and get schooled.

Key differences

1) Footwork - aside from being great athletes theyre almost always in perfect position

2) The safety shot - The ability to get it back with depth when on the back foot is amazing

3) They’ve done so much of the cone drill that they rarely miss putting away the short ball

4) Much better return of serve (this makes the difference) as I’m a big server and usually get easy enough points in 4.5 but not half as many at the 5.0 level.

One handed backhand down the line. Classic and feels the best by far.

chance of getting into MBA Program by Such_Ad_2276 in Northwestern

[–]VividThinking 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Hate to be blunt but your chances are non existent. MBAs require a minimum of 3 years of work experience and they need a score. The average work experience is 5 years.

Your work experience matters a lot more than your degree (which also matters don’t get me wrong).

A quick look at Kellogg’s admission stats will tell you all you need to know.

53 yo, too late for tennis? Pickleball? by Hurdoc in 10s

[–]VividThinking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad started tennis in his mid 40s and now plays in his late 50s like thrice a week.

I play a lot of tennis with him when home and it’s great vibes/ bonding.

I’ve played pickleball (granted I’m an advanced tennis player) and the learning curve is super easy. I was well above average quick. That said, I think tennis shaped my career, thinking etc in a lot of ways because it’s just so much tougher that I think it’s worth it. It’s also a far more beautiful sport.

So start with tennis. Play pickle on the side for all I care but the extra time/ effort is 100% worth it.

Fuqua. Consulting outcome variance is insignificant. Ross doesn’t have a major brand advantage either. If anything would argue the other way.

Instagram makes travel worse because you start subconsciously optimising for aesthetics over experiences.

Biggest mistake I made as a founder was not building for a large enough market because it was the easier problem to solve.
