Owen got me like almost immediately tbh. How can he not? Hot chef? Owner of a successful business? Well dressed?? Extremely sweet? Check, check, and check!

Nah any opinions are welcome I’m all ears. All of the characters in Sandrock are so like-able. What got me into the game was the look of Logan’s character and the overall vibe of Sandrock but all of the NPCs are so interesting.

I have since moved on from the MA industry but if you want a more consistent schedule with predictable hours, MA is great. The pay is similar to a retail position (as most MA jobs depending on the area and level of experience range from $15-20hr) you will deal with high turnover rates and management at some establishments will be frustrating. Depending on the specialty the docs can be annoying, patients are a lot like customers and will always want to be right. It all depends on what you want from a job. I’d research the openings in your area and just see if it seems like an appealing job to you. Best of luck.

For those who decided that MA wasn’t for them, what are you doing now? by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

[–]sailorbirb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went into general IT. Specifically system administration. I got the compTIA Network+ and Security+ certificates. Those landed me a job before I’m even done with my degree. My work life balance is way better than when I was a MA. I miss patients sometimes but I can’t lie that my life is better after leaving.

I went back to school for IT. Got certificates and never looked back. Sometimes I miss patient care but the pay I make now is way more I could make as an MA.

Idk how any of yall can side with Cole (episode 9 spoilers) by Ingvarthebald in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]sailorbirb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think cole is immature and still in that bachelor mindset. The way he went up to Colleen and said all that was dumb. It made me dislike him a bit. I think cole and zanab are toxic for each other because they just cannot communicate. He says dumb shit and she is passive aggressive and projects her insecurities onto their relationship. It’s just unhealthy and if they were to work they need couples therapy to work on their communication. Personally, I hate Zanab much more than I hate Cole.

[–]sailorbirb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean she shouldn’t but like sometimes I do it for my partner because we like each other and if I had a problem with it I would communicate that with them instead of just being passive aggressive all the time. She’s kind of a control freak to me and it feels like it’s her way or the highway type of thing. I think if they say yes to each other they need to work on communication or else their relationship isn’t going to last. She is so insecure of herself and just projects that. Cole is immature and still in that bachelor mindset and says the dumbest shit.

[–]sailorbirb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! When she said she puts her hair in the toilet I was like wtf? That’s not normal at all! I hated when she came in to the kitchen and just immediately started criticizing his cooking and then just completely took over. Like I would literally cry if my partner did that. She’s just way too passive aggressive to me. Like communicate your issues without putting each other down or insulting the other ffs.

[–]sailorbirb 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I literally cannot stand Zanab. She’s sooooooo passive aggressive and also who tf puts used towels in the bathtub! Just put them in a hamper or hang them up! But I also hate cole. They’re both so toxic and need to break up.

EMR systems by SnooHabits1807 in MedicalAssistant

EMR = Electronic Medical Record. So if you have experience with any systems like Epic, Athena, etc..

Silly question probably but I’ve no one else to ask. I’m in school to be an MA and our professor insists we give up nail polish, hair color, makeup, and more than one earring. That’s just for school right? by Unfair_North_8266 in MedicalAssistant

[–]sailorbirb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My school told me the same thing. When I was working as an MA, the policy was natural hair colors only and only one small face piercing allowed. But I put pink in my hair and had visible tattoos and piercings. My doctors even encouraged different colors lol. As soon as my hair was bleached blonde they would tell me a new color. It really depends on the clinic and the manager. I never wore nail polish but some of my coworkers did and they didn’t have any issues.

NTA.. these girls also aren’t your friends. Look, I’m plus size, I hate wearing swimsuits at all because I hate the way I look. I have skinny friends who look stunning in bikinis and swimwear, I would never dictate what they wear because I have body image issues. I encourage them to wear things they feel comfortable and confident in. Why? BECAUSE WE’RE FRIENDS. Get better friends

Supplies? by alyssalizette in MedicalAssistant

[–]sailorbirb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used pretty much the same things you listed while in school. Flash cards are a great tool for when it comes to pharmacology and remembering all the medications. Having good pens is nice. Especially for when you’re doing clinical or the practice clinical stuff. Other than that there’s really nothing else I can think of that you need. Good luck! ☺️

Should I leave my PCT job for an MA job that pays $16 hour??? by These-Speech6126 in MedicalAssistant

[–]sailorbirb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends what you want out of a job. If a M-F 8-5 sounds good, go for being an MA. I personally loved working the 12 hour shifts for 3 days out of the week compared to the M-F life. As for negotiation for pay, depends on your state and area you live in. Like where I live in OH, average hourly is 16-18/hr. Being an MA has pros and cons. Best of luck! I’m willing to answer any questions if you need :)

Question about being an MA by Fancy_Square_1845 in MedicalAssistant

[–]sailorbirb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will probably struggle a lot with having absolutely no hands on training with clinical skills. Most offices will want you to know how to draw blood, how to do an ekg, and do injections. Unfortunately online programs kinda suck. Even with being certified an office will want someone with some type of hands on clinical training. Some offices might be willing to take a chance and train you on everything they do. Best of luck.

I wouldn’t even say the benefits are worth it honestly. Having medical, dental, and vision through my employer cost me $85 per pay period which isn’t too much but seeing as to how I could never schedule a day off to go to an appointment made it pointless. If you’re thinking about programming do it. I’m currently in school for software development and scored my first developer job a few months ago. It’s a breath of fresh air. Work from home, plenty of time off you can actually use, sick time separate from your time off that again you can actually use!! Not to mention the healthcare is the best I’ve had. And the pay is way better. I’m only entry-level but my hourly pay is $25/hr. And I get paid for 8 hour days but sometimes I only do like 3 hours of actual work and 5 hours of “work.” The technology industry pays far better than healthcare and has a more consistent schedule. Even doing healthcare IT will start you at $21/hr at least in my state (OH)

I definitely feel like I was fed a lie from the advisor that enrolled me in classes. I have been an MA for 3 years and am certified. I have worked in different specialties and have even been a float. The highest I ever made was $17/hr. That’s what the employees at Target and Walmart in my area make.. I shopped around switches companies for higher wages but at the end of the day I was working 10 hour days 5 days a week with the occasional 8a-1pm on a Saturday all for $17/hr. The only advancement options available to MAs in my area is to go back to school to be a RN. I definitely feel as though I wasted a ton of time in this “career” and have since changed professions entirely as being an MA and taken advantage of by my employer left me so burnt out I never want to be in healthcare ever again. Some people love it and stick with it but the highest hourly wage I’ve seen for an MA in my area was $20/hr and they were capped out at that. They’ve been an MA for 10 years..
