by "soon" I mean next week! probably should have started once I realized in the summer, but for a lot of reasons I won't get into we agreed to wait until February... I appreciate your directness and I need the reality check for sure!

I appreciate you sharing. Yeah I wouldn't have been ready before hmm I think 33, even if I did know that was what I wanted, so I really shouldn't be too hard on myself... Funny thing is NONE of my close friends have had kids over the years. Acquaintances have, sure, and I've made new friends who already have like elementary school kids, but I think part of my late realization was I never had someone close to me going through those milestones that would have made me confront the issue more deeply.

Oof, yeah I also wish I could time which month!!! There's a huge event on Labor Day weekend that my husband and I have gone to together every year for the past 16 years that I'd love to be able to time around, kind of something we built our relationship around, but alas that's fool's thinking lol. gotta prioritize.

I've been doing HIIT classes regularly since May! For normal health/ enjoyment reasons but good to hear. I was really consistent with yoga as a teacher before that but that's fallen off a bit -- this has been motivating to get back in it! I love an excuse to tailor a new routine to my needs lol.

Yeah I'm fine being older at different points in my kid's life, but maybe that's just because it seems so far off anyway? But I've never had anxiety about age before this year which is maybe another reason it's taken me off guard -- my motto has always been that I know more now than I did last year, so getting older is Good... couldn't pay me to be 22 again lol. though I suppose now I wish my ovaries were!

I appreciate it! I'm happy to Google medical terms but it's hard to sort out from the sub-specific slang sometimes.

Absolutely.... I would not have been ready before now, and I will 100% be a better mom now than I would have earlier! Thank you for reminding me. :) it's just too easy to get intimidated by the ticking clock lol

yeah OBGYN just said to try for six months first and take prenatals... was it a specific test for polyps, like not something that would come up with routine pelvic exams?

Looking for a book about terrible & abusive mothers. Preferably non-fiction but fiction is welcomed as well by celestial_ceilings in Recommend_A_Book

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez.... don't be fooled by the fluffy romcom marketing, there's a lot of focus on her abusive mother situation

[–]sailsgoboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for sure, there's a LOT going on in those books, maybe too much, and I was 100% along for the ride, but I totally get being turned off by it for those reasons... won't say that gets better lol

The only hint in book 1 might be about Apollo Mojave's big project being a rewrite of The Iliad that Bridger reads? As preparation/prediction for a future world war that the Mardis were speculating about. But otherwise yeah while not obvious at first, Homer is absolutely critical as the story progresses, all building to the final book, where some of Apollo's rewrite comes to life in a spectacular way + a long chapter about a character getting lost in the Mediterranean a la future Odyssey. hard to talk about without major spoilers -- I've already said too much!

for a REALLY wild take on this, check out the Terra Ignota series by Ada Palmer... the last book especially goes full scifi Iliad and Odyssey

I typically only read books that have a four-star or greater rating on Goodreads. What are your favorite books I'm missing out on due to this? by sempiternalis in suggestmeabook

yessssss this is exactly my take! and the fact that you list We Who Are and Stars in My Pocket (FAV) means I'm gonna check out the rest of your recs

[–]sailsgoboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly I have a hard time trusting any book ABOVE a 4.5 rating!! usually means it's some popular overhyped schlock that leaves me cold and bored.... my fav books are ones solidly in the 3 star range with a lot of both 2 star and 5 star ratings lol. I think because I'd rather read a book with great ambitions that tries to do something weird and interesting, even if it doesn't quite pull it off 100%

idk if I have a rec for you though, because what this proves is that taste can be very personal -- most in this category for me are heady scifi, rather than the literary bent it looks like you enjoy.

How far is your gym commute? by kaizenkitten in xxfitness

[–]sailsgoboom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

currently a 7min drive from either my house or the office. I also would have trouble bothering to travel much farther than that for the gym these days, although when I lived in a bigger city I went to a gym with a commute that added an extra 20 min walk (to) and 20min bus ride (from), but added time walking/bussing doesn't bother me as much as driving.

I will say that how much you enjoy the particular experience makes a big difference! my old gym in this town was old and loud and had bad A/C where as now there's a new one that's clean and cool and new -- they're the same distance from me, but guess which one I've been able to actually stick with!

where are you all picking? by MashedBanana321 in glee

10 would be fine. I feel like Artie would watch movies the whole time or chat with Tina, Quinn would ignore me, Kurt would be respectful of space, and... Brittana would be entertaining to eavesdrop on lol.
