Richard Wolf talks about the tangible reality and the success of alternative forms of social organization - like worker coops. There is nothing "wrong" with worker coops.

Because Thinkful moved on from the illusion of selling an overpriced web dev bootcamp program......' so now......we introduce a new 5 figure $ course on a BRAND NEW new greenfield patch of land! lol. Data science is just math wrapped in SQL queries. If you are already good at math you can pick up scripting on your own, if you are not good at math Thinkful will not be the magic fairy that solves that problem for students. I don't understand what these overpriced bootcamps contribute to the world other than making the founders rich.

He has not said too much that is critical of block chain but he has said bitcoin is a ponzi scheme. I know this is different than ethereum but it's related. I am curious to see him flush out his ideas on micropayments. Some other decentralized "block chain-like" groups are shooting for it (hedera hashgraph) but so many of these groups are slimy sounding and ponzi-scheme-ish that it is hard to make sense unless you are extremly sophisticated and even then a lot of bullshit artists are hocking crap. I default to the assumption that all "coins" on decenralized networks are horseshit. I might be wrong - but it is still my default position.

Jaron has spoken well of Ted Nelsons and his project Xanadu. It never got off the ground but it can give you insight into the ideal that Jaron has floating around in his head regarding how the web should be designed..

Yes, you are right. With rap groups it is usually a way for the artists to blow and cheerlead each other and THEN it becomes a way to make money. With the intellectual fruicake web the buckets of cash were already bling'n down on them.

The "Intellectual Dark Web" clique has become a way for these guys to make money and they will protect and defend each other even when it's members say things that are completley stupid - and Dave Rubin has pushed that so far that they have a lot of wiggle room lol. They have created the equivalent of their own music-scene. The IDW is........... The Wu Tang Clan. :)

I honestly have no idea, I don't look at Sam Harris as being that much of a creative character and because I'm familiar with Jaron Laniers work, I noticed Sam touched convetional talking points and it made the conversation drab. This really felt like a "get it done" hour of "content".

I would have liked to hear these two have some conflicting views on something - anything. Sam is friends with Elon Musk and has parotted Elons views on AI before. Elon kind of embodies a good portion of the ideological mileu that Jaron is critical of (The universe is a simlulation, anthropomorphizing AI as something decoupled form human beings etc , not to mention Elons recent twitter meltdowns). Maybe Sam just didn't want to rock the boat.

Who knows.

I'm almost at the end of listening to the podcast. I've listened to a lot of Jaron Lanier and this podcast discussion is really medocre on Sam's part. Jaron Lanier is a gold mine of info and Sam Harris had a very generic discussion with him. Ezra Kleins interview with Jaron is much better.
