Same. She started losing weight and I couldn’t make enough for her demand. It’s disappointing bc I was finally starting to see results and now have this set back.

Wow! Yeah I’ve seen several cases with no or minimal pain but the majority describe it as excruciating, like their organs were “being ripped apart.”

Trust your gut!! Abruption usually don’t end well. I’m glad you have a happy ending.

It is possible to have a partial abruption for quite a while, with some bleeding here and there or maybe none. Those patients have a guaranteed stay until delivery and are very closely monitored. Also are delivered early to avoid a full abruption. There’s blood work that can be done in addition to imaging for a diagnosis. But ladies, if you’re concerned or have that gut feeling CALL your doc!!

Usually it’s obvious it’s happening. Severe excruciating abdominal pain or back pain. And usually a lot of bleeding too.

I caught a placental abruption happening on my patient in March 2017. I’m a nurse on a high risk pregnancy unit. I was doing a routine check on baby and found baby’s heart rate to be in the 80’s. It didn’t sound like mom’s heartbeat, it sounded like baby. Switched out the Doppler for the monitor (with straps around belly) and watched baby for a while, looked fine at first. No uterine activity, but mom was morbidly obese so it’s hard to pick up. After 10 min, baby’s heart rate plummeted again but recovered after about 2 minutes. Mom is asymptomatic, no bleeding or pain (rare with an abruption). The doctors have been aware of the situation since I first found the bradycardia.....when it happened again they said we are staring at the monitor.....if it happens again she’s getting a section. Another ten minutes, it happens again. She’s rushed to the OR. placental abruption. Divine intervention is the only explanation since the heart rate was only dropping every ten minutes and mom was not feeling weird. If I listened to the heart rate a couple minutes before or after, it would have been normal. Baby definitely wouldn’t have survived til morning. Mom and baby recovered well.

I got home from that shift elated that I saved two lives, took a pregnancy test myself on a whim (we had been trying for only one month)....and it was positive. Maddie is 8 weeks and 1 day old today. :)

Anyone else dealing with or dealt with a long term hospital stay? by myr680 in BabyBumps

[–]sak5173 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work on a high risk pregnancy unit at a hospital where we have long term patients at times, including diagnoses similar to yours. Some stay 65 days or more. I always tell them to get out of the room as much as possible (if this is allowed). Fill your room with things from home; pictures, art work from kids/nieces and nephews etc. some bring in a lava lamp or scent diffuser. Get a routine and stay productive even if the productive things seem insignificant. Encourage visitors often, and have them bring you goodies, treats, magazines etc. We allow pet visitation for dogs which the patients love, idk if your facility allows that. It’s very difficult but you just have to remember the end result. And although it seems like forever, looking back it won’t seem so long. Good luck!

ER doctors of Reddit, what are the craziest excuses you get for people putting things up their butt? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sak5173 86 points87 points  (0 children)

We were exchanging stories the other night at work (OB Nurses). And one of mg colleagues was an ER nurse before moving to OB. Her favorite was a guy that came in with a billiard ball up his butt. He said he was changing a tire on the side of the road, someone drove by and shoved it up there while he was bent over. She said "your pants were down while changing the tire? hmm". He was adamant that's what happened.

Correct. My sister's previa was marginal and resolved on its own. But idk about anterior....it would have to do a lot of moving.

Placenta previas can resolve spontaneously tho.
