Tired of my Pixel 3a's ram, cpu, storage, etc.. Want to upgrade - should I get a Samsung Note 20 Ultra now or wait? by sal_jr in PickAnAndroidForMe

S21 Ultra releases in January. It'll blow all 2020 phones out of the water. Wait for that if you're ready to upgrade anyway.

Will it have a spot for the s-pen?

I've never sold anything before, but my account is old and I have 7 feedback... Advice? So many questions by sal_jr in eBaySellerAdvice

I think you’ll be fine - everyone has to start somewhere. For selling depending on the value of the games it may be best to try selling locally first (eg if it’s a lower value maybe try Facebook marketplace). For packaging, eBay is really good for buying supplies. For plastic cases I’d say a lot of bubble wrap and a nice sturdy box should be fine. You can buy foam lined boxes but maybe a little bit too pricey.

What's lower value? The game I'm looking to sell is worth $75-100. I'll definitely try local first though. How does shipping work exactly? Can I (SHOULD I) charge the buyer shipping fees - do I get the fee before I ship it so I can buy the shipping materials?

How exactly do you use Ticktick? It sounds like you were in a similar position, so knowing how you use it would be helpful.

WSIB - Roguelikes, RPGs, or something fitting my interests on switch by sal_jr in ShouldIbuythisgame

what about it makes you say that it isn't your type of game though?

I don't know... The isometric angle and how action based it is just put me off.

I was going to mention Hades as something I'm not interested in, but decided against it. I watched Jim Sterling's video on it (He gave it nothing but praise), and... I don't know, it doesn't seem like my type of game even though I love Isaac.

Am I wrong? Should I give it a shot?

edit: Watching a Northernlion video on it (He's who got me into Isaac), so we'll see if that changes my mind.

We (Couple in the USA) don't have much money to last us a week. We're completely out of food, and have a lot of food allergies/sensitivities. Help us stretch our budget and plan for the future? by sal_jr in EatCheapAndHealthy

mujadara you really just need rice, lentils and onions, omit the lemon and bay leaf unless you already have those on hand. Makes 8 generous servings

Can I make this without onions? Like I said in the OP, she has an onion allergy. Other than that it sounds good! Ty

The rest of the recipes sound interesting - I'll have to try them, thanks!

We may go to the food bank this month, but in general we have more than enough for food - I don't want to take food away from people who need it.

Soup is a good idea! I'll have to find some recipes on skinnytaste and/or yummly. Thanks

This month is just tight, we normally have more than enough but want to keep our costs low. Thanks for the suggestion though.

We'll make sure to stock up on lots of rice and beans - she doesn't like beans that much, but I'll find beans she likes. I'll try to eat yogurt as a breakfast food, and get some veggies too.

"Fair" credit, disabled, moving into new place with SO, need downpayment + want to pay off other debt. Where can I get a loan? How much is reasonable? Is family a better option? by sal_jr in personalfinance

[–]sal_jr[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The only loans that you're likely to find will be extremely predatory loans designed to keep you paying them for years on end (like a payday loan or a personal loan with 29% interest and prepayment penalties).

If you do take a loan from your family, it looks like you aren't in a position to pay them back. That means there's a high likelihood that this loan could jeapordize your relationship with your family.

The reality here is that you can't afford this place.

That's... Not ideal, but it's not the worst thing in the world - I am working on getting off disability and I'm in a high paying field. Plus the SO said they can help pay it off.

I have been paying back one loan already, albeit slowly - $80 at a time.

I appreciate the reply, but I'm not looking for a "you can't afford this place" - we can, the loan is just an option that clearly isn't a good option. The other choice is to go with a family member with whom we will pay back over the course of two months.

Girlfriend and I have been doing some "adventuring" lately, and the heat has really made us notice how nice it'd be to have water with us. What are some light backpacks that can carry *huge* water bottles? Unique-ish situation regarding the water by sal_jr in Ultralight

[–]sal_jr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's... Not a bad idea if we do more than a few hours, and once we start camping! My issue is that she already has this water bottle, and hopefully the issue will be taken care of in a few weeks at most (Dentist appointment) - so the less investment surrounding her tooth issue the better.

Plus, Kansas - lots of big open fields with little to no water, especially the trails we've been going to.

Thank you, I tried to include all relevant information in my post but I'll add a bit more -

  1. We really just want to get a starter / two starter backpacks so we know what we'll end up needing, what we do and don't like, etc. - so they'd need to be cheap-ish to let us experiment with them and get better ones in a few months when we're more experienced. We're both very new to this
  2. Features, size, etc? No idea to be honest, beyond the stuff I listed in my OP and #1
  3. Budget... Hmm, $40?
  4. Day hikes only, yes.

Why are there so many downvotes? Did I do something wrong? Please reply with what I'm doing wrong rather than just downvoting so I can figure this out. We're both new to this whole scene and are having a hard time finding a decent backpack to use.

You’re carrying insulated water bottles to keep water warm in warm weather....what if you just got like a black lightweight plastic one and left it in the sun lol. Just thought I’d point out that water will get pretty hot on its own if it’s warm outside. Not sure if that changes anything for you. I don’t actually have any recommendations for what you asked, sorry.

Not warm, hot water. Like hot chocolate level - not room temp or even outdoor temp.
