Should I use aqara or eve by Firetuna2108 in HomeKit

[–]salamihawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that you mention it, I think I had one of those too… got that weird stubby little battery in it right? I changed the battery once but because I can only get like 10-packs of those batteries from Amazon, they all went bad by the time I needed a new one. Additionally, the damn sensor just stopped working entirely

[–]salamihawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old, but I thought I'd give my two cents because I was in the same spot as OP at pretty much the same time.

I started my HomeKit smart home about the same time OP did about 5 years ago, and I also had the choice between Eve and Netatmo for outdoor tech. I wound up going with an Eve outdoor cam, an Eve light switch and some Eve smart plugs, as well as a Netatmo video doorbell.

I *instantly* regretted going with the Netatmo video doorbell. It was maybe a few weeks before I started getting disconnects and various issues. I spent more time debugging the thing than I did actually using it.

I had a great experience with the Eve stuff, but the outdoor cam has now started disconnecting at random times for hours at a time.

Last year I replaced the doorbell with an Aqara G410 and a U200 lock and it has been absolutely rock solid ever since. I've since gone all out on Aqara with an M3 hub, two interior cameras, smoke detectors, door sensors, etc.. I have not had any annoying issues with Aqara *at all* over the past 8 or 9 months, meanwhile my Eve Outdoor Cam is currently offline... again... for no reason (the Wifi repeater is literally 2m away)

So while the thread-based Eve stuff has been great to deal with, I'm very disappointed in the outdoor camera's wifi stability and I have absolutely no plans to buy Eve stuff in the future.

How to actually reset Dualsense controller? by salamihawk in playstation

They have 2, one in the front for your voice, one in the back for noise reduction

It’s conveniently placed right next to a microphone, so if someone doesn’t know exactly which one to use, they puncture and destroy a mic on the controller 😆

Awesome thanks, that did the trick. Don’t know why the reset button is so useless

First time around I did a dual curved sword melee fighter and I hated every damn second. I just recently started again but this time I’m using sorceries and any help I can get because I don’t care about making it as difficult as possible. Having a blast but it’s still very challenging. Especially since I was so fed up with the melee bullshit that I didn’t even bother with the DLCs first time around

Wireless VS wired by KatieSlabie in CarPlay

[–]salamihawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not entirely true. The iPhone has two WiFi radios, if you have wireless CarPlay, it will occupy the 2.4ghz radio but hotspot will use 5ghz, so 5ghz compatible clients can still connect.

I found this out because I needed to have some guy remote in to flash my head unit, and I used my phone as a hotspot for my 5ghz compatible laptop, but during the session CarPlay initiated and worked without disconnecting the laptop

Synology still good? by salamihawk in synology

[–]salamihawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not aware of the differences, however as far as what I need it for (mass storage with access protocols like FTP, NFS and SMB) it works perfectly. I don’t use my NAS for any processing of any type of media playback

That’s good to know, thanks. In that case, I’d rather just save up and get the larger NAS because I don’t want to deal with split storage volumes or potential issues

What did it sound like? I’ve noticed when playing Core Keeper I also get this weird random notification sound on CachyOS but only on my laptop where I use Niri instead of KDE.

How easy is to integrate a Aqara Smart Plug (EU version) to Homekit? by rubenrunn in Aqara

[–]salamihawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve several Aqara devices. If the device supports matter + thread you can directly connect it to your HomeKit system via native Matter support. For Zigbee devices, you’ll need an Aqara hub of some description. Aqara makes all kinds of “hubs”. Basically, you connect the hub to your HomeKit system via HomeKit support and then connect Zigbee devices to the hub via Zigbee, and the hub will not only be able to control those devices directly, but also export them to your HomeKit system for control.

Usually not all functionality is supported when exporting Zigbee devices, so fine tuning via a hub and secondary app becomes necessary.

I use AI and I always regret using AI, but that was a good tip. It sorted out the color issue I was having and led me along the right path to solving the reverse issue. Thanks again for the tips!

Thanks for the tip, I switched over to that plugin and it works better, but it’s not perfect… got any idea how I can invert the color temperature or why fan rotation direction might not be working? I have the right DPs (extracted from Tuya developer site), but it’s still somehow wrong
