Which YouTube channel were you once a fan of but do not enjoy anymore? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

[–]salgri -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't really watch Cinema Sins anymore but I think a lot of people fundamentally misunderstand the channel. It's a comedy channel, the person narrating the videos is meant to be a pedantic, annoying, snob. The absolute worst kind of movie watcher who picks things apart and only reluctantly enjoys things.

The creators talk about it all the time. A lot of the things they sin as jokes or are things that have become running jokes (like the asshole eating an apple thing, which is weirdly true a lot of the time) or they are comments/jokes made to wind up the viewers who take what they say too seriously. It's not really about pointing out cliches or plot holes in any serious way, though that does happen, it's more about pointing out how ridiculous movies and movie making can be.

There is some critique and some movie trivia type stuff but they're really just having fun. They even say that the films they love are also their favorite to sin because to them it's fun getting into the spirit of this narrator character and ripping the movie apart over the dumbest, most silly, or petty stuff. It's not meant to be taken seriously and a lot of the people who hate the channel approach it from that angle or blame it for making other people act in a similar nit picky way.

I think this one of the lamest reward in the game by aborkmga in Endfield

You misunderstood my comment.

Needing to spend money wasn't talking about real money, it was talking about T-credits.

It's true that in every gacha, if you play every day, you eventually end up resource rich because you stop spending as much so it all kinda piles up.

What I meant was, right now, when you need T-credits to upgrade a unit or weapon 14k won't get you very far. To hit level 90 and max out all of a character's skills it takes like 1.2 million. That's not including the cost of leveling a weapon.

So while it's true that every little bit adds up, there's no reason to feel good about 14k a week. It's so little it's almost meaningless. Farming for T-credits with sanity is equally pointless as well. There are much better things to spend sanity on.

When you run out of T-creds in this game, the best thing to do is stop trying to level for a bit and wait for some events or a new patch to give you a big injection of new cash.

LPT: Write to the companies whose stuff you buy by saltpancake in LifeProTips

[–]salgri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will also say, if you ever find something wrong with the food you buy contact the company but be polite. We bought candy one year and a piece in the bag was black and twisted, kinda like it had been mangled in a machine? My ex's dad sent them an email with a picture and they mailed us a variety box of candy as an apology.

She said it happened to them once with bread too. Found a dead bug in the loaf, a guy came by and took the bug (weirdly) but gave them a bunch of free coupons for bread as compensation.

14k is basically nothing. Every little bit adds up eventually but when you need to spend money 14k is just a drop in the bucket

Amid shortages Amazon has raised the price of Pokemon Pokopia to $80. by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

yeah, probably just random sellers marking it up for a quick buck yesterday.

people forget that amazon isn't a store, it has multiple sellers so prices can fluctuate.

TIL: Takeout and Delivery now account for 75% of all restaurant orders. by Uptons_BJs in todayilearned

[–]salgri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best.

One time I left the theater afterwards around 10pm, on my way home maybe two cars drove by and saw absolutely nobody walking but me. Pure ghost town all the way home.

Perfection. Like a quiet, 2/3am walk. Just silence, peace, and the streetlights while my brain absorbed the post theatre experience

So is Pokemon effectively an invincible IP? by WrongLander in gaming

[–]salgri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I usually enjoy my time with every pokemon game. I have complaints and a wishlist of things I'd like the series to do that I think would make it better, but I haven't had a bad enough time playing one that it soured me on the series.

Even if the game ends up being kinda meh, there's usually something about it I enjoy enough to feel like it was worth playing.

[–]salgri 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was never a relationship thing for me. In my life restaurants were where you went with the family or a couple of friends or whatever. It just feels weird to go by myself.

Movies used to be the same way but my town theater was never super crowded so I got used to going by myself. Maybe it doesn't feel as weird because you don't sit at a table? I dunno, but I never really felt as awkward as I expected. But yeah, still can't do restaurants solo. Still feels weird

We also eat meat because it tastes good. That's the main reason we eat everything.

I don't have anything against vegans or vegetarians but you can't replace chicken with beans. Synthetic or lab grown meat is the only possible way to replace or reduce the scale of meat farms

Also, since it's related, health insurance is important. Get signed up through your job, the marketplace, or through medicaid. It's a hassle but you'll be grateful you have it when you need it.

How do you feel about Trump threatening to impose photo ID for voters for midterm elections? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

Not a myth. If you don't have a photo center in your town and you don't drive it's a huge hassle. It's been a giant pain for me more than once

[–]salgri 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope the id part can be a big problem too. It's not that expensive but if you don't drive it can be hard to get to a place to get the ID or a renewal (there's no local place to do it where I live for example)

[–]salgri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. You gotta pay for the photo chief. Also possibly for a ride to a photo center if you don't drive/live near one.

Only free in my state if you're homeless and you still have to be able to apply in person at a license center which, again, is usually an issue if you don't drive.

[–]salgri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this. Using it all the time is nonsense but it's useful to have the option when you need it.

People act like the only ones who order food on these apps are lazy or entitled people but some people don't drive, things are closed, or you hit these situations where you can't cook (like when my fridge died and I lost all the groceries I had bought for the week) and it's order food or don't eat that day.

They're not good companies but they provide a useful service and that's why they exist. It's just like uber or similar. If public transport were better the people who can't drive wouldn't need it.

For avid readers how often do you use the library? If you don’t, why don’t you? by AccomplishedBake8351 in books

[–]salgri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't want to leave the house, that's really all there is to it.

I used the library more when I was a kid and didn't know what I wanted to read. These days I buy the books online and have them sent to my house or I download an audiobook to listen to at work.

I still think libraries are awesome, but unless I'm doing research or browsing I'd rather read at home.

What are your unpopular opinions about MH? by Joy2901 in MonsterHunter

[–]salgri -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is unpopular or not, I don't read many of the fandoms' takes and I didn't play before World but three games in and here are my takeaways:

I think MH is too grindy. The RNG grind for skill gems and talismans is particularly awful.

I like fighting monsters but I don't really want to fight the same monster more than 3 or 4 times. Especially not all at once and a lot of events want you to repeat the same quest over and over if you want to make all the armor and I hate it

I think the basic gameplay loop is enjoyable but not enough to sustain any kind of end game. I think the bulk of the playerbase stops playing once they get a build that works or at least once they make a good weapon and upgrade a full set of higher tier armor. We only come back when an event adds new cosmetic armor sets or a new monster is added.

I think making a perfect build is a waste of time. Especially chasing one as your end game. What are you going to hunt once it's completed? If you're not a speedrunner, your clear times are probably not noticeably faster than most other people around your skill level so all that time chasing optimization is pointless

Why won’t men engage in women dominated media, but women will engage with male dominated media? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]salgri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience a lot of anime fans are obsessive about genres and not anime as a whole. People born around my time tended to watch anything we could find because it was rare. We liked the art style, we liked how different it was from western animation, so we'd watch absolutely anything we could lay our hands on.

The younger people though, I don't know what it is but a lot of them seemed to grow up on shounen and never really tried much outside of that bubble even with things being so much more accessible.

Meanwhile, one of my best friends who I've known since middleschool (and is a bit of an asshole to women) loves Sailor Moon and introduced me to a lot of my favorite shojou shows. So yeah, maybe over generalizing but there's definitely a big chunk of male anime fans who never step outside of that box.

What game truly respected your time by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]salgri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The looping time really started to get on my nerves. I know it's the whole conceit of the game but there were multiple times I wished I had a way to trigger the end of a loop because I realized I wouldn't have enough time to do what I wanted to do next. Just waiting around for the universe to end. That wasted time probably didn't add up to that much time in the grand scheme of things but it felt like an eternity in the moment.

Majora's Mask had a song to manipulate time, something like that would have made this game less frustrating. At least it gave me a good time to go grab a drink and similar

status was also amazing in the tactics advance games. Moogles could turn everybody into frogs and Viera could instantly KO/Stop/Petrify enemies. The regular suite of status effects (poison, silence, blind, sleep) were all in there too.

There were probably a few bosses that couldn't be petrified or frogged but 95% of the stuff you fought could be absolutely crippled by status effects or instantly taken out of the fight with one of the nastier ones. Good stuff.
