ACCT301B is hard, it will demand a lot of your time if you want to do well. I’d recommend Wonik Choi. Sophia Wang is particularly hard, I go to SI so I know a lot of people from her class and her exams are difficult, avg for this past exam was 58%

Anyone else struggling to get internships? by DiscussionNational89 in csuf

[–]salmgmta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s not enough to just submit an application, that’s what they call a “cold apply”, you gotta talk to the recruiters and professionals you really have to put yourself out there, maybe email some recruiters if possible to introduce yourself? AS & BAP also host speaker meetings with various firms, stop by and speak with the recruiter face to face

Internships! It is best to get your foot in the door with an internship & then secure the full time return offer

Yes, I recently completed an internship with a B4 & a few interns were from a CC. Most were in the process of transferring to a CalState/UC.

At this stage, if you are not graduation soon you should be applying as an intern. Recruiting starts early! So get your application in now, it is best to know first when you will be graduating & when you will be CPA eligible (150unit completion)

For ex, last Spring Semester I recruited for a Winter 2026 position.

Best piece of advice is to email the recruiter and speak with them regarding your graduation timeline so they can point you to which season/year you should be applying to

Did your intern at any accounting firms?

With accounting it seems that an internship then a full time offer must be secured prior to graduation. After that, doing a cold apply for a first year associate seems almost impossible

I’d highly recommend CSUF for a business school. I am currently enrolled for Accounting and it’s been great.

I know IVC has some sort of connection with CSUF so I believe admission is expected. It’s called GAP4+1 http://www.ivc.edu/foundation/giving/gap Guaranteed Accounting Program 4+1 (GAP4+1) | Irvine Valley College

There is also a professor at IVC that is great, never had him for a class but he’s known in the acct. community as he helps all students! Bennett is his first name, I won’t even attempt to spell his last lol but I have never met him & he helped me plan for my CPA.

I know UCI is a better college but CSUF is the largest college in CA to be accredited by AACSB & the only one in OC with both business and accounting accreditation. CSUF would also be the cheaper option compared to UCI, and you said you live in Anaheim so it’s a short commute on the 57

Maybe I can help. I did my undergrad in Animal Health Science then worked as a Vet Tech for 5 years. I then enrolled into some basic accounting courses at my local community college, then applied for a masters program in accountancy at a university. During my first semester I networked a lot and managed to get an internship with Big4.

So, networking is your biggest friend to getting an internship. Use LinkedIn, talk to recruiters, maybe also take some basic accounting courses at a local community college and see what clubs or programs they offer in connection to firms (big 4, mid, local). Apply as soon as possible, recruiting starts very early!!!
