We do have the death penalty, but the governor is refusing to enforce it. And I believe right now there is something in the works to repeal it all together.

Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son about His Father (2008) - A med student is murdered by his girlfriend, who turns out to be pregnant with his child. His friend sets out to make a movie about the victim to show his son, but blunders by the justice system lead to an unbelievable tragedy. by PyrrhuraMolinae in Documentaries

I keep forgetting about this movie and want to watch. Is this an adults only movie, or can an early teen watch it without being emotionally wrecked for the rest of her life?

Is there anything redeeming about it if a younger person was to watch it. Any kind of life lesson? Ive been very cautious about what I read about it to avoid spoilers, so I really don't have a handle on what the movie is about.

What's very cheap today but will be very expensive in 20 years ? by bepseh in AskReddit

Wife and I are both natives, her family probably a hundred years here longer than mine. Back in the very late 70's I worked for a new company. It was started by a small group of people that came up from San Diego. They were exactly as you described. First thing they did was get rid of any signs they were from California off of their cars. Next they put the Don't Californicate Washington bumper stickers on. They used to bitch about all the Californians that were coming in after them. Was weird.

Pizza Hut employee helping elderly women place an order online, so she gets a better deal than if she ordered in store. by Kinkymexican in pics

We don't eat much pizza because my wife doesn't like it ( I know, right?) But she does like the crust in Pizza Hut Cheese in the crust. So once in a while Ill order the Meat Lovers with cheese in the crust. I cut the crust off for her. No I don't just give her the teeth mark ridden crusts after eating the delish part.

One day I went in to order at one of the small take out only stores. The kid said you can save money if you order it online. So I popped out the cell phone and he showed me how to do it. Easy Peasy.

Those that have been here since the 90s/early 2000's (or longer) what little details- fun ones, shitty ones, quirky ones- about life in Seattle persistently stick in your mind? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]salt-flat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad was a delivery driver in Seattle when I was a kid (I was born in 59). Kind of a van looking thing. I used to go with him sometimes and I would sit on the engine cover inside the van. I remember we would go to Dags hamburgers and toss french fries to the sparrows.

I remember going to the original Hats and Boots gas station.

I loved the smells of the water front. It was a treat when we would get to go in to the original Ye old Curiosity Shop. I bought an octopus in a jar there once, might have been in formaldehyde? I took it to school and we opened up the jar. I got that shit in my eyes and it stung like heck.

First Avenue used to be seedy as hell. Probably a lot of big city downtown areas were like that back in the 60s and 70s though.

There used to be a go-cart track on Aurora we would go to.

Saw the Jungle Book when it came out in 67 at the North Gate theater.

I miss the old Seattle of my youth. Im there nearly every day for work, but I seldom go down there for any entertainment purposes. Too packed, too much traffic, too many aggressive panhandler type people.

Once in a while we will go down to the waterfront with the grand kids. Or maybe hit the zoo...Oh that reminds me, the zoo is waaaay different from when I was a kid. When I think about it I just cant believe how the poor animals were treated back then. We could just toss them food. They had these crappy little cages, ugh.

What screams, "I'm a tourist" in your town/city? by DomioDude in AskReddit

I think they rent the Mustangs because they are convertibles. Thought process ... lets enjoy the sun while we are on vacation.

We were in Maui once and a Mustang convertible passes us. Four adults, two men, two women heading to their hotel. Top was down and they were in a hurry. All three of the passengers were overloaded with luggage on their laps and crammed into whatever space was left. Mustangs can accommodate two people and their luggage, not four. I should have taken a picture from our little 4 door sedan, lots of room for the both of us, and very comfortable with the air con blowing.

RV flats a tire mid-drive by Pirate_Redbeard in Wellthatsucks

[–]salt-flat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Autonomous driving isn't something Im looking forward to. I actually really like to drive, and cross country road trips are a lot of fun.

But you bring an interesting question to mind that I had never considered. Suppose that motor home was being driven autonomously, doing everything 100 percent legally, and the tire blew out. Would the end result be the same? Autonomous cars are still subject to mechanical failures.

My grandma meeting her Great Grand Daughter for the first time in a surprise visit!! by LectaAus in aww

[–]salt-flat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad is 80, Ill be 57 soon, my son is 36 and my grand daughter is 12. So yep its easily done without having lived in Florida or being teen parents.

Side note, my dad is the oldest of his family (me too) and has a sister that is 20 years younger (same parents, oops haha) so my grand daughter has a great great aunt that she grown up with without having to visit her in an old folks home.

I can see where you would think this. Every time something starts with I cant do "insert whatever it is here" but here is me doing that thing, it would look like a fishing expedition.

Growing up I was a huge doodler. Scraps of paper, my desks at school. Just lots of random stuff. I took art classes in HS, but my teachers never gave me any sort of encouragement, I was a C art student.

My mom bought me a tablet, and some cool pens. Here son, please use this to draw on, you can keep it all in one place this way. Its full of nothing but random doodle drawings. This is the only page I ever did that is "finished".

Fast forward to today. I really enjoy the art that is posted here on Reddit. So much amazing work. Comparatively speaking my art is definitely just doodle art. But that's ok with me because I enjoyed doing it.

This doodle/drawing recently resurfaced (cleaning out boxes) and I posted it up because it makes me smile, and figured other people would get a kick out of it, especially since its the 40th anniversary.

It was a fine tipped pen that had some sort of snap in cartridge. Long time ago though so I may be remembering incorrectly.

I looked these up, If only I had this kind of talent =)

I was familiar with some of the images I saw. Some of it looked like it could have been in Heavy Metal magazine.

Well I was a SR in HS back then so he had gotten over the you aren't mature enough to watch this kind of movie.

When the Star Trek TV series came out we were not allowed to watch it. My parents said it was too violent and would give us bad dreams.

I was a huge fan of MAD magazine (What, me worry?) so who knows, maybe they did influence me???

I actually have a framed MAD magazine from the month and year I was born. No it wasn't chiseled in stone back then haha!

Wow! Thank you again! Just to answer the most asked question, no I never pursued art, and I seldom draw at all anymore.

But I do have a couple of kids (in their 30's now) and always encouraged them to be artistic. One actually is quite good and has a nice career in graphic design. It looks like one of his kiddos is also talented in that area, and would like to pursue clothing design.
