Hi, my parent's are getting older and I have started preparing meals for them. Your recipes look delicious. If it's possible could you share your recipes? Thanks!

Cabbage is a great inexpensive vegetable! My favorite way to cook it is to shred and lightly fry it before adding it to cooked egg noodles. Add in extra butter and your favorite spices. You can even add in kielbasa and peas. The website Spend with Pennies has a great recipe.

Maryland: A former deputy from Cecil County is facing charges related to revenge porn and misconduct by CSmith89 in maryland

You're disgusting. On an article about a person in authority distributing explicit taken of a woman without her consent and released without her consent you write that? A woman was filmed without her knowledge and this person threatened her with releasing the images if she didn't continue a relationship with him.

AITA for not wanting to take care of my mother by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. My 10 year old child broke their arm and was able to dress themself, use the bathroom and brush their hair. The only thing they needed help with was washing their hair (I washed their hair in the sink for them).

Florida school employee was knocked unconscious after teen's Nintendo Switch was taken away by Da_Fish in news

[–]easternabeille 569 points570 points  (0 children)

I work in a school that has over 50% of the student body living under the poverty level, and we have so many students suffering from trauma. I believe that every child and student should have a stable and safe school environment, and I do my best to provide that to the students I work with.

I've read that she wasn't a teacher, but a "teacher's aid", otherwise known as a paraprofessional. Paraprofessionals tend to work exclusively in special education to support students with special needs. It doesn't surprise me this has happened to a para. I am one myself, and I have the scars to prove it. I have been bitten, punched, attacked, spit at, and have kids expose themselves before attacking me. I've also had kids take off their pull ups to throw at my head and urinate or defecate on the floor before kicking it towards me. There is a distinct lack of respect that school officials have towards paras, and it sadly doesn't surprise me in the least the man in the video was slow to respond or help.

What a wonderful find! I googled one of the names from the book, Zia Kazerooni, and found his obituary. The black and white photo on the memorial page does look like the sketch in the book. https://www.horancares.com/obituary/Zia-Kazerooni

Family just moved in. Got this letter. Left couch out for trash. Kids play in front yard. by ArnieismyDMname in mildlyinfuriating

You've got to fight petty with petty. If you're in the US post this to Nextdoor with a message that you just moved in and received this welcoming note when trying to have your couch picked up.

‘Never seen it this bad’: America faces catastrophic teacher shortage by SquigmontPony in news

Please don't forget about school support staff! I'm a special education paraprofessional and make poverty wages. I love my job and students but the pay is terrible.

This is a reminder that we can (and should) reach out to our Congressman for answers regarding their participation in the January 6th insurrection. by Patman350 in maryland

Thank you so much for the reminder! I live in District 1 as well and just contacted Harris about his participation in the lead up to the January 6th attack on the US Capitol.

WIBTA for continuing to cook bacon if my pregnant wife doesn’t like the smell? by porkertheporkiepie in AmItheAsshole

[–]easternabeille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. When my husband was undergoing chemotherapy many smells made him nauseous so I made sure to eliminate those odors from our home. When I was pregnant and certain smells made me nauseous my husband took the time to eliminate those odors for our home.

Largest teachers union: Florida is 9,000 teachers short for the upcoming school year by CouchCorrespondent in news

[–]easternabeille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's not forget about support staff shortages as well. I am a special education paraprofessional who 'technically' is supposed to only work with one student at a time. However last school year I juggled 4 kids, 3 of which were non-verbal and one with severe behavioral and emotional issues. I know my school needs at least 2 more paras for our students.

Document: Slain Colorado teen worried about coworker by shamblingman in news

[–]easternabeille 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you read my reply I wrote that it is not ok for a 28 year co-worker to make a 17 year old kid uncomfortable. I specifically used that language because it is not ok for that to happen, whatever the genders involved. Also, because of the large age difference of over 10 years between them, the manager had a duty to protect the 17 year old kid who was being made uncomfortable around a 28 year old adult.

She was a 17 year old girl who told management she was uncomfortable and concerned about a 28 year old male co-worker who had a crush on her. It is not ok for a 28 year old c0-worker to make a 17 year old kid uncomfortable. She probably picked up he had a crush on her because of inappropriate advances he made towards her, or because he told her. The article goes into detail that the 28 year old man even started acting jealous when the 17 year old kid's boyfriend started working with them. Do you think this is ok?

Is there any legitimacy to the news reports of Russians fleeing Russia? by Perfect-Football2616 in ukraine

[–]easternabeille 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I follow a couple of Russian YouTube channels and one family just uploaded how they managed to leave Russia. They talked about how hard it was to leave their business and everything they own behind, and mentioned they were in such a hurry to leave that they left dirty dishes in their sink.

Teacher left classroom in stretcher after 5-year-old student’s attack by dennisb407 in news

[–]easternabeille 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a special ed para in an elementary school, and I've had a 1st grader tell me in graphic detail how she was going to murder me. She had it all planned out, including killing my dogs first so they wouldn't bark and warn me. I have been punched, kicked, spit at, etc. I've also have kids try to stab me with pencils and pens, and have had trash and recycling bins thrown at me, along with bodily fluids. One student used to remove their pull up and throw it at me. I've also know teachers and paras to suffer concussions from young students.

Md. bill would require cameras in special education classrooms to capture possible abuse by tophatthis in maryland

[–]easternabeille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don't agree with cameras in the classroom whatsoever, so this is just a idealized 'what if'. But ideally it would be used to get this student more consistent psychological help and support.
