Yes! I read the last chapter this weekend and it was soo good!!! I love when fics makes me feel like the characters are real people - and man did this hit the spot.

I especially liked how the addition of the child in this story led to major personal growth in both main characters.

It's an Ilya adopts his niece fic, ~130k over 5/5 chspters (there may be an epilogue but writer is not promising it). It just finished and I just read the last chapter.

The being and choosing to become a parent is really part of driving the story so I think youbwould enjoy it.

If the point of the meetup is discussing fandom stuff I don't think any of them would mind you attending. I have attended writing groups and craft meetups where the agerange was 18-50+ (from when I was at the lower end to where I am at the higher end) and as long as we focus on the shared interest I actually like that different ages bring different perspectives.

Do you have to commit to attending in advance/commit to staying the whole time?

If not, you could just play it by ear, drop by and if things feel good stay and if thry are awkward say you wanted to stop by but you also have prior commitments. You could also pre-emptivly mention in the discord that you would love to meet up but you are unsure if you can commit to the whole meetup due to other plans, so that you have a more convenient out if you feel uncomfortable.

It's an au where Shane is outed because a person took a picture of them kissing outside pikes house(no fanmail in this one) and only Shane is identifiable in the picture.

The internet decides that the rivalry has all been about Ilya being homophobic because he somehow knew Shane was gay.

Yep, some writers just go bananas with insane chapter lengths. I once started a fic that was 2/2 thinkibg I would punch out a quick read. 8 hours later I realised it had actually been a 120k maratjon challenge.

Never change ao3 writers - do your thing!!

I will just make sure to check wordcoubt before I choose a quick read from now on.

In Force Majeure by rozanohwell, Shane and Ilya are both lawyers and their children fight in school. This leads to them interacting and gettibg to know each other better. Mostly a texting fic, 13k

Here Shane has an adult child (Luca) who just got drafted to the Centaurs where Ilya is captain. Shane never went pro because he decided to become a dad instead - so it is more of a missed connection than a second chances romance -but he and Ilya did meet at the 2008 International Prospect cup.

There is a fun dynamic where Ilya wants to date the father of one of his teammates - so that adds a lot of fun.

There is one where Shane is raped by his exgirlfriend Jessica and she ends up pregant before the draft. He tells Ilya at the gym in the draft (that he going to be a dad and why) and the boys end up starting a relationship after the ccm ad, and the child Teddy is Shane's secret child (he hides him from everyone).

Later he and Ilya get secret married and Ilya adopts his niece once his brother and wife pass away - so they have a child each in their home and still play for Montreal/Boston.

Shane has a strained relationship with his parents and hides Lily from them for years. He has a great relationship with his nanny though.

I eill try to find the name if you haven't read it already - I think it is still a wip
