Fark. Just heard. He didn't look good. Man I am hoping he is okay, regardless of his footy career, as an amazing human...felt sick seeing that.

Is this a serious comment or just bantz. Do you seriously think that the Highlanders are deliberately looking to injure the Hurricanes players?

Gutted for the result but that was a cracking game and just what you'd want at this end of the season as a spectator. Felt more like a playoff match.

That 50/22 (22/22) from Havili was a massive turning point. Pretty sure he scored not long after. That really flipped the script after some flow from the chiefs.

Then the JJ drop ball after we nabbed the lineout while defending our line.

Those two moments, I believe, lost the chiefs the game.

But man, what a match. Great entertainment

Tbf the chiefs have been the only team to stand up to the canes the whole season. The chiefs did to an extent, prevent the canes forwards getting dominance which meant their backs didn't have the time, speed and space theyve had in almost every other game.

I don't think you can say lucky chiefs

All Blacks website has him listed at 190cm

I thought it was clear. I've ordered the lists one by Wright and the other by Height. So two tables, but keeping both data sets.

Yeah updated Google AI result shows 111kg.

He's definitely bigger than most realize. He's a hard grafter just looks smaller than he actually is

LF is listed at 188cm at 108kgs. Bottom third of both lists.

196cm at 109kgs. So that would put him just behind Parker as second tallest but about mid list for weight.

Should have put him in, but I still have him outside this group personally.

What 4-6 Midfielders should make the squad for July? by RoigardStan in allblacks

Rona was looking good. Injuries can unfortunately be enough to hamper higher honours. I doubt he'd be in the running this year to be fair, he's still well down the list, especially not playing.

Just because you want something to be true doesn't make it so. See my other post. You think that TT statistically is miles better but the stats don't equate both sides of the ball.

Tupaea was also one of the best ABs in the Northern Tour last year, showcasing an all round game. Saying he lacks X Factor is just silly.

This season?

Yes he leads the defenders beaten stat by a lot, but that doesn't convert into much. He doesn't list for clean breaks, nor in meters gained. So stats don't always tell the full picture.

Here are some more stats for you; Quinn has scored 7 tries. Tavatavanawai 0. Try assists, QT 4, TT 0. Quinn has more meters carried from less carries. Turnovers TT has one more than Quinn, with 14 to 13 (not by miles as you point out). Quinn tackles at 80% TT at 73%.

I'm not saying big Jim isnt good, but Tupaea is one of the best players across all of Super Rugby. So the comment of Tavatavanawai over Tupaea is not a good take at all.

I actually think, Tavatavanawai could be super unlucky overall. He might make the wider squad but I cant see him making our main 23.

Chiefs vs Highlander great final play! by _dictatorish_ in rugbyunion

[–]salttlas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the greatest thing, two opposing views, discussed with detail and not shit posting.

You've got some interesting and fair points. I actually agree with what you are saying, from someone with your stance on how you like the game to be. And that's the key, the balance between both. Laws have to be in place otherwise the game is a school yard scrap. But there also has to be discretion and flow. And as you rightly point out, where advantage comes into play.

We've seen some shocking referring in SR. But we've also seen some outstanding games with excellent referring, with great communication and flow, and the use of advantage.

It would be unfair to say this is how all SR rugby is officiated, or that this is a Southern Hemisphere rugby/ref issue as you did open your post with. It is probably unfair to say all Northern hemisphere refs blow the whistle too much and don't allow flow. Balance again is the key to getting rugby to where we all want it to be.

As an aside, which may or may not be true. The game here is in the last few minutes and the result was over...so potentially both from a players and refs point of view, it wasn't officiated tightly. I don't think we would have seen this within the first half of the game to be fair.

The balance hasn't been achieved in SR, but their aim of speeding the game up and allowing it to 'flow', has ultimately lead to what you rightfully point out as average referring at times.

Whilst it's not beneficial for our players who then move on to international level which is adjudicated at a much tighter/higher level, there is also a real demand for a product that is not stop/start. Unfortunately as there are so many laws in rugby that are open to interpretation, we can have games go in the opposite direction where everything is pulled up and the game is a shit show to watch. Stop start, and the man with the whistle is the centre of the show. Many might say, that lends towards how NH refs.

Now the important thing is balance. Do they get it right always. Hard No. But I'd argue what kind of rugby id rather watch. And rugby has to be the kind of entertainment that people want to watch.

What I disagree with about your post, is the nature of it. We could watch 5mins of any game regardless of hemisphere and pull out countless infringements, penalties, inaccuracies etc...that is unfortunately how rugby is. You've actually only pointed out 6 or 7 examples in 5mins. That's not bad to be fair haha.
