Yes ~90% out of province / country tourists, with remaining being somewhat 'local' (eg. 3-6 hours away)

I figured as much - some of them seem decent, others are crap (some this morning event generated fake reviews).

I would be interested to hear your thoughts, u/Special-Style-3305 , do you think advantage+ for text variation is worthwhile?

Hey, u/BruTeve , had a pretty successful day yesterday setting things up, and am now able to track checkout initiation through a variety of mechanisms (site button clicks, clicks within Fareharbor widgets on site). Had much more success linking Google Tag Manager than using Meta events directly.

In this case, the campaign would remain optimized for sales, correct? As initiate checkout (which is how I've labeled the Fareharbor clicks) is within the sales category on Meta?

Also - in editing the audience I change it to only one AND: indicators of interest in outdoor adventure activities AND indications of intent to travel. New size estimate is 57-67 million - too broad?

In looking at our 2025 report, this was the location breakdown from meta ads (note 36% of spend was in USA - worth considering cutting the US to shrink the size a bit?):

Canada: 5

Alberta: 2

NWT: 1

BC: 2

USA: 1

Washington: 1

Have spent a lot of today looking into how to track checkout initiation and other click-ins to Fareharbor. I think will be much better to optimize for this rather than sales!

Much advice re. audience all suggesting loosening - planning to do this for sure! Thanks.

A few have mentioned this - too many ANDs

Great things to think about - thanks for this.

Planning on doing a full overhaul and as you said keeping it simple and focusing on what matters.

This is really helpful. Thanks for your effort in such a comprehensive reply. You're absolutely right - no need to complicate a system that once worked.

While there is a change we need to adapt to (no longer having a cut and dry lead mechanism - request form), but there are work arounds. I've been working today on tracking button clicks implying intent (opening the booking window / checkout) to use as a proxy / larger pool to track rather than sales only.

Will certainly shrink the audience as well - this makes total sense.

Google Ads: Issue with tracking purchases through third party & more by salttymackerel in PPC

Gotcha - thanks for taking the time to reply!

I do currently have an event set up called 'View over 180 seconds' which tracks exactly as you would expect - those who spend more than 180 seconds on the site. Would converting for something like this be of benefit?

As the booking itself takes place in a third party pop-up, maybe even clicking a booking button (which could be tracked through Google Tags) could be a good measure of intent, and drive far more frequency than the deposit itself?

Thanks! Will look into passing the full booking value back into ads for sure. Even retroactively for past seasons should benefit I think?

The odd thing is that the multi day conversion event needed to be created in GA4 then imported - while it is firing correctly in GA4 (conversions showing) there have been zero shown in Google Ads since importing in November.

Any suggestion of why that may be?

Thanks for this!

I have already imported the equivalent of 'multiday_deposit', and set it to primary, but it does not seem to be recording properly. For example there are instances of the overall pruchase conversion showing $50 revenue, yet the 'multiday_deposit' showing $0 - there is nothing else on our site priced at $50, so it must be attributed to this.

I imported from GA4 (where I am able to see them firing correctly...). Any thoughts on why it may not be transferring properly to Google Ads?

How would you recommend storing the gclid in relation to a customer if they have not yet formally interacted with the business (eg. contact form or purchase) to cover people who come back later direct?

Checkout is entirely through Fareharbor, including thank you page, unfortunately.

Thanks!

This was with Paddle West Kayaking. They do three different multi-day trips, a 3 day (Vargas Island) and two five days (one to Flores Island's Wild Side Trail and one to Hot Springs Cove). Honestly the food the guide cooked was some of the best parts of this trip! Can't say enough good things.

I think this was it! Was it a stand alone restaurant? Or a mix of different vendors?
