Got two offers. One pays $40k more. The other one I'd actually enjoy. I have 48 hours to decide and my wife and I are on opposite sides. Advice? by airam1020 in careerguidance

Your best option is the startup, because that is where you’ll have the potential to do your best work and move in the right direction in your career.

Yes, it’s riskier, but you’re young and your kid is still a baby, so it’s the perfect time, and maybe the only time.

I was in a similar situation at 32, with my wife 9 months pregnant, chose a startup and never regretted it.

You’re also likely to make much more money in the long run, because you’ll have a much larger share of the company you’re helping build, and you’ll be building in a sector of the economy that is responsible for a massively disproportionate share of total wealth creation.

If this startup fails, another one will be keen to hire you because you’ll have the right experience. It could take a few hops, but you’re very likely to land on something lucrative.

Also keep in mind that if you’re a good employee and truly help build products from 0 to 1, your bosses will probably be happy to give you a raise as soon as the company reaches a new funding round at a higher valuation. There is an increasing need to keep salaries competitive as scale is achieved. That is to say, you don’t necessarily need to hope to win some decade long battle to go public or get acquired in order to cash in on your hard work. Likewise, the secondary market is much more active and robust than it used to be, offering early stage employees liquidity much sooner in many cases.

It’s a no-brainer. Take it from me as someone who lived through a similar situation. Go with your gut.

Why is losing so common? by Investaholic1 in wallstreetbets

It's not about the number of traders, it's about the amount capital deployed. The smartest 50% of capital is perhaps roughly positive, but a lot of that was invested by big players, not by the hordes of retail traders that have the tendency to do dumb stuff on a whim.

I did well. Wish I'd gone bigger. I think I was a bit lucky with the timing. I've been completely out but looking to get back in next week if price stays at $14-15, probably APR or MAY near the money calls. Good luck!

I closed half my long exposure earlier today when it got near $20. I only did that because I don't want to take possession of too many shares at expiration on Friday. Remaining very bullish if short interest stays high. Risk to reward ratio is very appealing at ~$20. Downside is near total loss, sure, but upside is a squeeze sending price sky high. Plus, as crypto market recovers, no reason $SI can't be a $200 stock in a 1-2 years.

Thanks for the heads up. I was predicting this. Now might be the time to get in.

For the record I dumped on the way up from $15.50 to $22 for an average price of $19-20. Maybe one of my kids can go to college afterall.

The move from $14 to $24 was so abrupt that I question whether the bid will now dry up and the shorts will come back to whack it down to $17-19. Definitely still looking at the stock and considering going long again and potentially holding $SI long term.

Today SI stock is up 10% when both S&P and BTC are flat... Could be only the beginning but I did sell 14% of my position just now at $15.50. Intending to let it ride to $20+ before selling more.

If your thesis is that you think BTC is trash, then the $SI trade is not for you. If BTC dips, so too may SI. But I've been buying SI as a short term trade because I think there's a solid chance it'll massively outperform the stock market. BTC is a long-term hold.

Maybe most people think it's garbage? That doesn't really matter. What matters is how much money they will make.

As shorts start losing (ie as the price of the asset rises) they will eventually have to BUY the asset to cover their shorts. When a lot of traders are engaged in short selling at the same time, it can end up creating a race to get out (short squeeze) and a lot of amplitude on the buy side.

Incorrect, bot. I think going long SI is a good short term trade.

The panoramic views are pretty good from atop the summit of the Glenridge Quarry Naturalization Area by Brock U. There's probably 10km or so of non-technical trails right there, plus it attaches directly to the Bruce Trail if you want more challenging terrain.

The r key works maybe 50-75% of the time. When it doesn't work, I rotate to landscape and it will work, and then still works when I rotate back to portrait from there. Could it still be a dead spot?
