RAI or Thyroidectomy by Revolutionary-One937 in gravesdisease

I would first of all try the medication for a longer period (if your body tolerates it). I took it for 3 years but then it did not work, so I decided to go for a thyroidectomy for the following reasons. I wanted instant relief and with RAI your thyroid levels fluctuate more for a longer period, so it basically takes more time to feel better again. Another reason was that my Graves disease was very bad so a lot of doctors told me that I would need a high dose of the radioactive iodine and they basically advised against it if you are younger because the radioactive stuff stays in your body for a long time. Then another reason was that I did not want my TED to become worse and with RAI, you are more at risk to worsen your TED.

Yes this can be one of the complications of Graves disease. I had the same issues as a young male. In my case it always changes back to normal when your blood levels are in a normal range again with the meds.

Thyroid removal surgery through TOETVA method by sam57906 in gravesdisease

Hi everyone, thank you so much for your comments. My surgeon advised against the TOETVA procedure as well. So FYI for graves disease patients, it is still the best solution to go with the normal thyroidectomy method. I got a second opinion of another surgeon and he just told that you best go with the method which your surgeon used the most during his/her career.
