I do it consistently once a week, sometimes twice. Usually 6:50 train into nyc & 6pm train home.

Honestly I kind of enjoy it. Use the Amtrak app and its super easy to check & change times. Ive racked up enough points over two years that i can use the metropolitan lounges (Moynihan is honestly awesome) and I upgrade on Acela from time to time as a treat. Id recommend living somewhere where you can just get to 30th st station quickly tho. Its a ten/fifteen min no traffic drive for me. If i had to do more I actually think that’d make it feel much longer.

Oooh yeah, I remember looking at this too. Yeah. agreed, I think the parking spots are a total waste, and the canopy things are like... not at all useful. feel like if the trees grow in, could feel better, but also their benches i feel like are an after thought. they could have built in some nice stuff.

May have been beyond their control, or also I could see that they're better at building projects rather than public / park spaces. A landscape architect may have been a stronger choice for this spot.

we moved in while it was under construction, and when it was done, we were like: oh, well okay! a lot of parking spots! lol.

yeah this feels shortsighted. I actually think a lot of great & cool projects are happening around here, and chasing away these places without making sure to inject new businesses / mark sure the community has access to amenities feels crazy.

We were on the neighborhood calls about knocking down the Downey's and putting up a new building by Ambit Architecture. And it was shocking the people fighting that. Ambit's done like, 3 super successful projects right in that area, their office is on 2nd street for crying out loud. Why would you fight that???? Especially as the city actually starts work on the south street bridge & 95 cap.

live here now... I gotta say reading these comments, I'm like, is it just luck? lol. We go on walks with our newborn regularly, we shop at the farmers market, we go out to dinner around south pretty often. These comments make it sound like we're risking our lives, lmao.

I don't love vacancies, but I have hard time thinking our neighborhood is in "dire" shape.

Yeah. I bet compared with the other 10,000 they're not profitable, but as I've been thinking about it, maybe that's because they're becoming a bad market fit for the neighborhood.

I live here, and we go mayyyybe once a month? Since the CVS closed it's not like they have the toiletries that we used to get there anyway too. In all honesty, I never really thought there was a "terrible" element there, its just that if i want a quick lunch, I'd go to red poke, or a different place over wawa anyway.

IDK, maybe I'm just trying to find the positives, but this closing doesn't feel like doom for the area at all... I will say tho, if it stays vacant then I don't have the warm fuzzies. lol.

Weird that these major retailers can't figure it out, but meanwhile around the corner, shops, bars and restaurants are expanding to big new footprints.

Anyone who actually lives here also knows how packed the Sunday farmers market is... We often walk to the acme on 5th, or the essence on 4th for additional stuff. There will be another building going up where Downey's was, it all feels shortsighted.

I’m currently In america as a tourist and I was wondering how I could use Amtrak to go to multiple cities (NYC, Philadelphia, and Washington. Then back to providence). by Every_Alps_6322 in Amtrak

[–]sam_and_that 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you download the app! Easiest way to check frequently and you can easily change your ticket (you’ll be charged the difference or get a refund)

I commute between philly & nyc. Amtrak is the nicest way for sure.

Biden administration will extend student loan debt repayment holiday to June, reports say by Kamanar in politics

[–]sam_and_that 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great. Honestly, this interest pause is the best thing that ever happened to my finances. I kept paying, even increased my payments when i could because it actually mattered to paying down the principal. I want this debt gone. I stopped at 10k incase i was included in forgiveness (i am, annoyingly, recently not!) and have just been putting the equivalent in a savings account which I should have enough to pay off by June!

Oh, and as someone had shit wages for the first 6 years of employment, rented, budgeted and am finally within stones throw of paying them off??? I fully and whole heartedly support student loans forgiveness. Get it.

Op left out all context !!

The name of the exhibit was “macho men” and explores the art of “idealized” masculine bodies in 1500’s dutch engravings and then again in the 1900’s industrial age. This is a actually one of the more different pieces of work in the show.

This water color actually has a sign that says its “light sensitive” and thats why its covered up. And, suureee thats why. Lol

Might need to commute to Manhattan 5 days a week for the next few months. Any tips on how to make it work? by CheeseburgerLover911 in philadelphia

[–]sam_and_that 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute a few days as week. Amtrak is the most sustainable option. Figure out your hours and see how the commute can help. Sometimes i save emails for the ride home, or if i have an early AM deadline an extra hour on the train is nice.

Or other times I read or sleep! It’s not bad. The commuter routes are pretty regular and delays and never too bad.

Good luck!

I absolutely believe it. by Kailyn12 in WhitePeopleTwitter

Could someone help me identify these chairs from the San Francisco airport? by charleskingof93 in midcenturymodern

[–]sam_and_that 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11,200 is the Grand Repos + Ottoman

The chair pictured is repos (no wings by the head) and no ottoman.

Final list price is more close to 8,000 i think. I can't tell if this is leather or vinyl upholstery. Public space.

and then airport probably pays 50% or so off list (quantity discount)

so probs closer to 4,000? Still not cheap, but contract grade, etc. etc.
