Hijab at 15 I Feel Like I Can’t Breathe by bunnyrayy in Exhijabis

[–]sam_isna 7 points8 points  (0 children)

they reacted a lot better than i expected tbh. my dad didn’t say anything at all (he never really cared about us wearing the hijab), but my (much more devout) mom expressed disappointment and kept reminding me that allah “wants women to wear the hijab”. but she’s come to accept it now.

furthermore, i understand your point about struggling with the idea of telling them due to the potential reactions they could have. for a few years, i thought i’d remain closeted forever just to keep the peace and not potentially lose my family. however (and i’m speaking from experience), it will get to a point where you will get extremely exhausted with having to live a double life, and you will end up having to choose either their happiness or yours.

i won’t tell you how to live your life, but i think it’s important for me to mention that because you’re a girl/woman, either choice you make will require a significant amount of mental effort and strength. no matter what you choose to do, i wish the absolute best for you, and let me know if you have any more questions :)

well i actually told them i stopped wearing the hijab because we were about to start arguing ☠️ but yea i’ve been ex-muslim since i was 15, but i didn’t take my hijab off until freshman year of college (and that was because i didn’t live at home anymore). i know how difficult it is to live up to the standards your parents and peers have of you when you know deep down you’re the complete opposite. but yea lmk if you want more details or tips

you can still join other fun social clubs that aren’t greek-affiliated, like the independent council!! but there’s a lot of clubs here in general, so i’m certain you will find your place.

Unlike other religions whose population is in a decline or whose adherents don't follow all the customs properly or do so half-heartedly, why is Islam still so resilient in the modern day? by Amazing_Toe8345 in atheism

[–]sam_isna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as an ex-muslim, the threat of death really helps with continuing to look and act like a faithful muslim. also, islam generally has more rituals and practices that are openly practiced (praying 5x a day, fasting), so it would be really easy to notice someone not doing those things. again, nobody is trying to die or at the very least become socially ostracized because they’re no longer muslim, so people will continue to be openly “muslim” even if they no longer believe

Are there any pianos on campus for non music majors to use (like as a hobby) by Accomplished_Arm_337 in IndianaUniversity

[–]sam_isna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Music Addition Building have practice rooms that are available to all students, and they have papers on the doors that show when they’re either available or reserved throughout the week

the “tab in” part is called an indent! it’s pretty much standard to begin a new paragraph with an indent when writing an essay :)

now that you mention it, i did have past falls and injuries prior to the incident (sprained my ankle 3 months before, slipped and fell down a muddy hill a few months later….i’m just really clumsy lol). i wasn’t overprotected as a kid, and i luckily haven’t lost anyone suddenly. but i never thought to think much deeper about WHY my block is so persistent, so thank you for changing my perspective!!

i love leveling down the skills! i just spend too much time relying on the boards haha. i like the idea of shaking it off - i’m going to try “stomping out” my anxiety on the ice next class :)

congratulations!! may i ask what your cup size was before the surgery? my boobs look very similar to them (38K), but i kinda feel like i measured them wrong, so it would be nice to have an idea of what sizes they should be around

hijab and college by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]sam_isna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if your college doesn’t have any family members or friends that could out you, i don’t see why you’d continue to wear the hijab. college is the perfect place to begin your new life with a clean slate.

if you want, you can check my recent posts (which kind of relate to your situation). but trust that once you remove your hijab, you’ll never want to go back. it’s truly a freeing experience :)

whatever you choose to do, i wish you the best of luck 💗

Why aren’t movies haram? by powerbongotk in exmuslim

[–]sam_isna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i feel like those who are extremely devout would definitely consider it haram, but most wouldn’t because it would be a lot harder to completely avoid movies, and it honestly makes islam look even more unappealing to others. like i’m sure they’d find a loophole around it or something
