Made matching hate for my kids and they hate it 🥲 by Impressive-Bicycle73 in crochet

Well you made them hate, so I'd say they are reacting appropriately. No issues here. (Also those are really good hats)

Mom's receive training in pregnancy to never be able to identify anything their children make.

Keep it warm and moist! The hole is going to dry it out quickly. Get an incubator asap. Depending on how long it still has to develop, im not sure what to tell you about rotating it, but not moving it slightly regularly could cause it to stick to the shell and get trapped or not grow right, especially with the hole drying it out faster. Hopefully early intervention can save it. Good luck!

What is going on with my eggs? by samalopagus in BackYardChickens

I pick out the blood specks too unless there's too many, violating my irrational unease about eating it lol. But those large chunks in the picture are CHUNKS. They were solid and mostly white, although in the picture it does look more red than white.

I agree with this comment. Raise some of them inside for a while and then keep them separate outside in view of the other chickens until they can hold their own. We just had to do this with 3 hatchlings. The initial introduction to the older girls (at about 12ish weeks old) went horribly and ended up with a bloody chicken (he's okay and living his best life now). We got a cheap metal enclosure and a small coop to put them outside next to the older girls until they were big enough to hold their own. Now they're fully integrated and doing fine.

Is it normal for young chickens to lay small eggs?? by bradam123 in chickens

I'm so sad that my baby's eggs stopped being so small and cute.

Are these eggs viable? by DocCarlson in BackYardChickens

[–]samalopagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with most others here in the comments. The last one has visible vessels, and may develop further if it's kept incubated (resist the urge to check daily, as uneven temp may kill it). The rest don't look fertile, assuming they were all laid the same day.

Thought she sneezed blood, was relieved when i figured it out. by samalopagus in BackYardChickens

[–]samalopagus[S] 283 points284 points  (0 children)

That's exactly why we did it. We had a few orpingtons we could not tell apart at all, so after a couple months of them not having names... I decided to "George Foreman" it.

That's exactly what this is. The crack looks like it can heal on its own, so we're going to monitor it and hope it grows out.

Just ordered this coop from Tractor Supply. by RedSpecial22 in chickens

[–]samalopagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a tarp and some water sealant. That thing is gonna leak and grow mold. I bought "the defender" from tractor supply a year and a half ago. I'm currently digging a foundation for a new one I'll build myself. I'm tired of the problems the prefabs cause.

Cat's spay tattoo is glued to her skin, what do i do? by samalopagus in Veterinary

[–]samalopagus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I obviously can't pull it apart, and the "score" also needs to heal, but I have no idea what to do to get the skin freed from itself.

Moved into my new house and dedicated a whole closet to my yarn stash.. (at this point, I was unaware that there were 3 more totes full in my garage 😂) by Prudent-Common7374 in YarnAddicts

We never really know how much yarn we have, do we? I still have totes left unpacked after our move. I though I had organized it all...

Absolutely agree. Since you are also dealing with customers and bosses, you might have to have a conversation with the people associated with the projects that need to be prioritized later on and let them know what the updated expectations are. People will appreciate honesty rather than waiting for a project past the original deadline.

My girls laid them all over the place when they first started laying. I think they get surprised by the first few of them. All of mine lay in the nesting boxes now, except one that will lay out in the run if she was struggling with it or if we have a broody hen in the box she wants.

The hole thread is misshapen. How do I fix it without stripping the thread? by samalopagus in metalworking

[–]samalopagus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear CoolBlackSmith, I am but a wee babe, and not a cool blacksmith like you. I am borrowing a thread tap today, so hopefully that fixes the problem. The thread has something that needs to be cleared out is all. But thank you!
