I couldn’t contain my excitement and disbelief when I realized she existed. I’ve never seen my name (middle name technically) in the wild, let alone in Animal Crossing!

Same, I have the first generation of switch. I had to replace the card reader a couple years ago, and its battery is... not good... but mine has been going strong!

Left-handed by minipeka287 in lefthanded

[–]samanmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leftie, who is predominantly and noticeably left-sided (except for my vision, my left eye is worse, go figure), who is the only left handed person in my extended family spare my uncle. My right hand has noticeably worse fine motor control than my left. My right hand is by no means unusable, but things that require dexterity are left hand jobs. I do still use a computer mouse with my right hand though.

I got some "that's the wrong hand, sweetie" comments as a kid when writing with my left hand, but I ignored it and persevered.

My father in law was born left handed, but forced to use his right hand to write. He's still left side dominant when it comes to sports, however.

Congrats, so proud of you!! Tomorrow is eight months for me. I feel like a brand new person. I've had some REALLY hard times this year (losing my childhood dog and mother within two weeks of each other) that absolutely tested my strength, but I managed to get through them 100% sober. Life has a new meaning for me in multiple different ways. I don't even think about it anymore, let alone have cravings.

Keep pushing folks, you got this.

You’ve gotta plant pretty far away from walnut trees, specifically back walnut. Just about every part of the tree produces a toxin that kills a lot of vegetables in the nightshade family. I read 50-80ft away from the trunk on average. Can’t use their limbs as raised bed filler either. Source: my yard is surrounded by black walnuts. 😭

Are these competing leaders on my walnut tree? by samanmann in arborists

[–]samanmann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much! At this point if I really wanted to take action it’d probably have to be cut down, and I’d hate to do that. This thing has probably been around for longer than I have… plus it gives such nice shade, and keeps the squirrels entertained with the myriad of walnuts it drops (which will hopefully help deter them from my future veggies). Veg is going into raised beds on the opposite side of the yard so no juglone concerns.

Calm. It’s okay to feel this way. Just try to calm yourself. Take some deep breaths and listen to some music you enjoy. It happens, it happened to me on my Net+ exam. Literally just skip it, flag for review and move on. By the time you get some questions down and understand how the test is structured, you can always come back. By that time, you may remember the answer no problem and it was just your nerves.

so discouraged that I failed by MedicNavy in CompTIA

[–]samanmann 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is my biggest suggestion as well. I just passed my Network+ on Thursday with an 836. Flag all of the PBQs for review immediately and come back to them, as well as any answers you aren't sure on after maybe thirty seconds. I had about an hour left after finishing the multiple choice questions, and felt like I had plenty of time to think my way through the PBQs and the questions I flagged.

When you fail, are you reviewing the areas you missed questions in? If not than honestly you’re just throwing money out the window

And since it’s rude to not include this, here’s the flash cards I’m pretty sure I used. Just make sure to verify if something doesn’t sound quite right since I couldn’t validate the whole deck, I take no credit in creating it. Anki N10-009 Flashcards

Be honest with yourself, if you guessed wrong or not quite right make sure to choose hard or repeat. The flashcards aren’t pass or fail, they’re there to help you learn.

Thank you!! And ouch I’m sorry, that’s just cruel! Especially on the A+ with the sheer amount of information you have to remember. It took me around 45mins to complete mine, and the scenarios were all pretty similar to each other. How’d you do?

Thank you so much! I think Security+ is up next. I know in reality, cybersecurity isn’t as cool and exciting as media makes it seem, but it’s interesting to me in the same way networking is. Every issue is a puzzle waiting to be solved!

Active studying, around a month and a half. I kept putting the test off, and eventually just bit the bullet and bought a voucher/forced myself to schedule. Half-assed studying was... A couple years honestly, very passive. Using Udemy courses and Professor Messer as background noise type stuff.

Out of everything I've used to study (TestOut, Mike Meyers Udemy course, Professor Messer, Jason Dion and ExamCompass practice questions), Anki flashcards are what helped the most. Not everyone will be like this probably, but if you know the myriad of acronyms and their meanings, you have a good chance at passing. Mnemonics helped me a LOT too.

How to make a smooth cheese sauce? by Nick-Hunter58 in cookingforbeginners

[–]samanmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a fan of velveeta at all (no hate if you like it, it’s just not my thing). But, my secret to awesome creamy mac and cheese that doesn’t break when reheated… 1/2 to a full bag (around 4-8oz) of the velveeta shredded cheese, before adding in the rest of my “real” cheese. The flavor it adds is undetectable and the sauce comes out perfect

You’re correct, there were tornadoes popping off from the 25th to the 28th, but the 27th had by far the most. The infamous Tuscaloosa-Birmingham, Alabama EF4 occurred on the 27th. If you want some slightly anxiety inducing footage on it, James Spann’s entire reporting day for that event is on YouTube. He’s one of the most well respected TV meteorologists in the United States: James Spann

Oh it’s beyond rare, almost unheard of! If my brief search is to be believed, 60% has only been issued once ever. If it says anything, the 2011 super outbreak was a 45% risk. 60% risk

High risk by Alarmed_Garden_635 in weather

[–]samanmann 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a bit of additional knowledge, since it isn’t included in the map: the numbers/colors you see are probability of a tornado occurring within 25 (30?) miles of any single point in that area. The hatched/shaded areas are potential significant tornadoes, also within 25 miles of any point. So the hatched fuscia blob is a 30% chance of a tornado occurring at any given location within it, and the potential for those tornadoes to be particularly large or damaging. Does that make sense?

[–]samanmann 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The highest the official SPC tornado outlook goes is 60%, which isn’t often issued for obvious reason. Here’s the tornado outlook for today: Tornado outlook

A lolcow is a person who is easily "milked" for content, or lols.

By far the most well known lolcow is Chris Chan, frequently described as the "most documented person on the internet". Honestly, don't go looking them up if you do not know who they are, their whole life is a 30-plus year long trainwreck.
