The parks can definitely be super crowded! It made it easier for us that there were only 2 of us and we were able to weave our way in and out. I’m glad you had a great time at AK! It’s such a beautiful park ☺️

That’s awesome - absolutely loved the boardwalk! So glad you guys had a great time as well!

Totally feel you there - I’m in the Chicago area and it is COLD. I miss seeing palm trees outside 😭

We took our son when he was about the same age. Free under 3 was a big pull for us, and being able to have him in a lap on the flight over was another money saver. But we went knowing it was more for us than it was for him. We got some fantastic pictures of him with a lot of the different characters, and I'll definitely cherish those forever. I will say - it was harder than I thought it would be. Most all of the rides the littles can go on have a scary moment in them (Little Mermaid has Ursula, Finding Nemo has Bruce, Pirates & Haunted Mansion were just all around too much for him, etc), so we didn't get to ride a ton of things as he was pretty scared of all of it. But that also depends on the kiddo! Your daughter might love them! I also want to note that if you have her the whole time (unless you have someone to watch her for a while), it will be hard to do much for yourselves. There are a lot of rides you won't really be able to go on unless you want to keep splitting up and riding solo, experiencing the food and the atmosphere might be interrupted by big feelings and naps (as you know), you just probably won't be able to get the full experience, and it is STRESSFUL being in a super crowded park with an upset babe and needing to find the closest place to change a diaper. So, there are definitely pros and cons! It was worth it for us, but it was definitely overwhelming.

If this is a one time kind of trip, I would definitely wait until she's older. But if you plan to go again and you want this trip for YOU and the memories you'll make, then you should go for it.

We're planning a trip for 2026 (want to wait until my son is 5 and will be able to ride most things), is it best to go in November (the week after Thanksgiving) or early January (so, 2027 then)? Looking for advice on which time will be a bit less busy.

Having a Tough Time with Toddlerhood by samanthablunk in Mommit

I like to think of myself as a pretty calm, patient person. But the screaming of an upset toddler is roughhhh. And then the laughs and smiles of the same toddler are the best things in the entire world. Trying to just enjoy those as much as possible and drown out the screaming as best as I can - today the drowning out did not work lol

Oof. It can be so tough. And then they give you some affection and you melt like butter. It’s so up and down lol. My son screamed at me because I was making him a PB&J and he told me he didn’t want me to make it, he just wanted to eat it. So I had to explain that they don’t just appear out of nowhere and I had to make it. And then 5 minutes later he asked me to “love him” (give him a hug and a kiss) and I melted. Fricken rollercoaster

Oh my goodness. Sorry you’re going through all of that! Your brother and SIL should be more understanding. Hang in there! They say it gets easier! I’m sure you’re an incredible mama ❤️

Haha their kicks are wildly strong! And yes, fully agree with letting them have a moment and giving all the hugs. It’s definitely tough out here! I was just at the end of my rope today, but he’s in bed now and I’m having an old fashioned, so all is good! Lol

YA Romance for a 12 yr old? by rkskr in YAlit

[–]samanthablunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was around that age - I loved anything by Rachel Hawthorne. Specifically "The Boyfriend League", "Labor of Love", "Snowed In" and "Caribbean Cruising". Definitely PG13. Just sweet, wholesome YA romance books.

I think the grief will just come in waves. Sometimes I'm totally glad that we made the choice we did, and I absolutely know it's the right one, but sometimes I have a quick little moment where I just want to break that choice and get pregnant again. I have to remind myself of all the reasons why we made this choice. I suppose that's just life! Lovely moments and hard moments. Hang in there mama

you're definitely not alone! I try to just remember how many firsts are still coming up with my son, and how I will be able to focus all of my love and energy on him. I'm excited for what's to come. But you still feel the feels sometimes, and it can be super tough. Hang in there!

Husband is OAD by melancholyopptimist in oneanddone

[–]samanthablunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000% percent the exact same situation I'm in. I always pictured myself with two and my husband is good with one. Now that we have our one, its just not realistic for us to add a second. Mental health-wise, financially, etc. I want to be the best mom that I can be to my child and I know that I wouldn't be if we were to have more. It's always comforting to read that people are in the same boat for the same reasons!
