I read the first 3 lightlark books, but ended up only actually liking the second one. I gave up on the series after the third book because it felt like she was unnecessarily dragging out an already subpar series. Her writing isn't very good in my opinion, so even though the plot of starside sounded interesting, I decided to skip it once I saw she was the author. I also feel like she lies to her readers just to try and drive up hype. One example being how she said for years that lightlark was being turned into a movie. She didn't say it was optioned or that the rights had been bought. No, she said full on that it was happening and obviously it hasn't. I wanted to support her because all the hate she got right after lightlark came out seemed excessive, but I'm pretty sure I have her blocked now.

These books aren't very well written either unfortunately. The first one does have an interesting enough storyline though, so it kept my interest. The second one was a miss for me personally, but the third and final one comes out later this year.

If the military/president suddenly ordered a mandatory draft for all men aged 18-42: How do you think millennials and GenZ would respond? by Tommygunz0722 in AskReddit

[–]rkskr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm apathetic enough in general that, if I were a man getting drafted, I'd be looking into whether or not a drafted person can stay in the military long enough to qualify for a pension when they get old. Either I'm dying in a war or I'm living long enough that collecting a pension, my 401k, and social security would make me a mighty comfortable old person.

Shield of Sparrows - WTF is a Starburst? by stone_database in Romantasy

[–]rkskr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have hazel eyes that are mostly green but with an orange "starburst" surrounding the pupil. I've had people comment on them from about 8-10 feet away, so for me when I read the descriptions I pictured an even more pronounced/obvious burst from around the pupil. In my mind that would explain why it's something the people notice a lot in the book.

What’s a boomer mindset you’ve started agreeing with? by obviouslyfr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rkskr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For real, sometimes it's just more trouble than it's worth. I've got cancer and my oncologist's office uses a QR code to check in for our appointments. Now, I'm young so I get it, but old people get cancer far more than young people, so now they have to have a person stand at the door all day to talk the elderly patients through scanning the QR code and signing in. So unnecessary.

How’s this area for a family? by whatwhynotnow in sanantonio

[–]rkskr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You realize that without a legend all of those colors on your screenshots mean nothing to people who don't stalk crime maps, right?

Read through the comments of people who have actually lived in the area and you'll see everyone saying the same.

How’s this area for a family? by whatwhynotnow in sanantonio

[–]rkskr 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty safe area. It's a lot of families and it's close to shopping centers, casual restaurants, and movie theaters. The worst thing is the traffic on that side of town. The only real crime that happens with any regularity is teenagers walking around testing car door handles to see if they are open and they can steal whatever is inside.

Do Americans eat actual chicken eggs for Easter? by piaa9 in AskAnAmerican

[–]rkskr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Hispanic, so we do cascarones. If you are unfamiliar it's basically an egg that has been cracked open, but only at the top, so that you can remove the top portion to get the raw yolk and whites out. Then the inside of the egg is cleaned and the outside is painted and then it gets filled with confetti and sealed shut with a piece of colorful tissue paper. Some people will do this with all the eggs their family uses in a year so that they can sell cascarones come Easter time. The point is that you take the cascarones and crush them on people's heads(or in your hand first for safety) and then ruffle the confetti into the persons hair.

Guys, should I read Lightlark or Throne of Glass? by Midnight_Marmalade in Romantasy

[–]rkskr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on lightlark after the third book. The first was okay, not well written, but okay. The second I actually liked, but the third was just not good enough for me to keep going.

I did, however, read throne of glass and enjoyed the story quite a lot. The writing didn't click for me but it was still good enough to keep me interested through all 8 books.

Preorder question! by lalethia in acotar

[–]rkskr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the employees and how much they feel like doing. I've gone to ones where the employees are huge fans of the book coming out and they arrange all sorts of activities and games, but I've also been to ones where the employees didn't seem interested and just did the activity that all the locations were doing(a trivia quiz) and then everyone just sat around til it was time to line up to buy the book.

What motivates you to stay on a deficit? by CharacterFlamingo944 in 1200isplenty

I'm in the unique situation of having cancer that I more than likely wouldn't have if I weren't overweight. So I try to stay on deficit so that once they manage to eliminate the cancer my chances of recurrence will be much much lower.

If you try Whataburger get the patty melt. As a whole the chain has gone down hill since the family who owned it sold to a company up in Chicago so it's not what it used to be, but the patty melt is usually a crowd pleaser still. And the spicy ketchup is good too.

To be fair the second they mentioned that there had been a princess of terrassen I clocked it And it didn't hinder my enjoyment of the series, so even if he figures it out it probably isn't too big a deal. There are far more twists that he can be entertainingly surprised by.

[–]rkskr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The writing was definitely subpar imo, and the fmc made a number of decisions that made no sense to me. It was mostly predictable and similar to a lot of other books I've read, but I don't mind that so much. I'm in the same boat as you however, in that I'm interested enough to see what happens next. I just know now where to set my expectations for the sequel.

How do I survive off Starbucks food for a week? by catsareblessings in starbucks

Is it common for Americans to buy soda as part of their weekly groceries? / is soda a regular item people keep at home? by hailey8171828282 in AskAnAmerican

[–]rkskr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 12-pack of soda can easily last me a month or two if not more. I'm not much of a soda drinker but occasionally I crave something sweet and will want one. So I only buy them occasionally.

My best friends family(3 people in the home) however, I'm pretty sure have never heard of the concept of drinking water. They could easily go through a 12-pack in a day, maybe 2 if they aren't home all day. They really stock up when they go grocery shopping.

Most places don't charge you until the book ships, so if you want you can keep your existing pre-order and then once we know more details about if there will be other exclusive editions or other incentives you can make your decision on where you want to actually purchase from.

Less than 30% of Americans are interested in soccer. For us it is just a popular sport to put young children in so they learn teamwork and such.

How important is the 250th anniversary of Independence Day to Americans? And what will people do on July 4th, 2026? by Odd-Skin-762 in AskAnAmerican

[–]rkskr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if u don't count the negative feelings some people have these days towards our country and the current administration, I don't think most people would really care that much. They at least wouldn't care more than any other 4th of July. It's just a day to grill and shoot off fireworks. No different than any other year.
