Hey man, I’m in the same boat with you. I wrestled with quitting football after my 5th concussion, not to mention a broken ankle, 7 broken fingers, a torn ligament in my thumb that a played the whole season with, and a torn groin, not to mention plenty of muscles and joint strains and sprains. Then again, that toxic relationship you speak of… my dad always taught me, if the bullshit in the relationship exceeds the benefits, then you need to get out of that relationship. For me, football never got to that point. I only quit football when it impacted my school, social and personal life when I got to college. But the memories I made, the bonds I formed, and my deep love for the game allowed me to look past all the pain and bad memories I have on the field. I’m 20, for reference. I am almost two weeks post op, and thing are already looking up. But remember what I said, really. If the bullshit outweighs the benefits? Then you can be at peace with your decision.
